COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled only - 500ml pateurised bottles.
Crisp and clean with a refreshing citrussy hop bite, This IPA is burnished gold in colour from the carefully roasted malts used in the mash tun. Hops are added at three stages in the brewing process to give the aroma and bitterness so typical of an India Pale Ale.

Aroma: Fruity, Caramel, toasty Appearance: Clear light amber. Small, long lasting white head. Flavour: Caramel, medium bitterness, medium sweetness, biscuit, light hop flavours, light resin, fruity Palate: Medium body, creamy carbonation Overall: I think it needs a bit more hops (even for an ENGLISH IPA). My beer may be old (can’t find the BB date to confirm) and that would explain the lack of hoppiness in bitterness and flavour. Still a lovely beer and I would drink a few 500 ml bottle, poured. Thanks Andre! 14A. English IPA

Beese (1099) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 24, 2014
Bottle from local supermarket. Poured a clear, dark orange colour with a dense white head and visible force carbonation. Mild aroma of some floral hop, bready malt and straw. Some grassy hop flavour mixed with sugary sweetness and cream soda notes. Finish was typical pasteurised affair; carbonated water with residual malt.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig. The pour’s brown with a tight head. Lemon cake on the nose. A bit of woody hops. Toffee. The taste is of stale raisin bread. Soft earthy hoppiness. Pretty meek, lacks character. Light body, soft carbonation. Meh.

Bottle from Lidl. Amber beer with small head. Aroma of malts and some faint hops. Taste is mild bittering hops, caramel and dry malts. Typical cheap Sheps beer.

Bottle, from Lidl, Brigg. Deep gold, thin but lasting white head, moderate condition. Low sweet caramel and skunky hops backed by a woody vanilla note in the nose. Quite dry and bitter in the mouth with a brief caramel sweetness that has a slightly saccharine sharpness that lingers into the finish but a hippy bitterness outlasts it

500ml Clear bottle: BBD Oct 14, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 14th Jan 14. Light amber body, clear and bright, plenty of carbonation bubbles rising up to the full, deep head of uneven white foam. The head hung around and the beer looked fine to the end. The nose and taste were a lot more malty than a regular IPA, less hoppy too! I prefer malty brew though, so this was alright with me. The hops came more into their own as the beer warmed and by the end of the beer it seemed more like a normal ’well hopped’ IPA like I expected. A bit thin on aroma, taste and body, but for a 3.8% ABV cheap supermarket bottle it isn’t too shody. Biscuity malt feel initially, finishing semi-dry and more bitter.

Bottle from Lidl, Exmouth. Chestnut ale with a small head. Bitter taste and long bitter finish. Some woody hops in there too with slight rough fizz feel at the end. This is proper old school bitter this. Decent especially for less than a quid.

Dry and hoppy, this is more of a bitter than an IPA, has that typical Shepherd Neame taste
