Clear deep copper color, small steady white head. Typical Shep Neame nose: nutty hoppyness with hints of metal. Light to medium bodied. Crisp hoppyness, grassy, woody and nutty. Dryish and a bit too watery. A Light version of MasterBrew or Spitfire. No Christmas found.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle (Hilpea Haukki, Helsinki)
6 Shepherd Neame standard fingerprint - Sweetish, muted hops, a little dusty and earthy.
4 Reddy orange, small persistent head, settles to a ring.
6 Text book shep again. Tons of floral honey whic is a little detached from the other tastes, namely the almost-pungent aromatic hops which make this just a little nutty.
3 Simple palate, crisp carbonation. Finish saves it - plenty of honey and caramelly malt, and loads of bitter hops. Those hops are again somewhat muted, and don’t taste fresh.
12 A straight down-the-middle bitter which didn’t survive pasteurisation so well. Like many other SN beers.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Amber with a large and lasting white head. Old, dusty sack of grain malt aroma, sweetness intensifying as it warms. Some fruity sourness in the taste leads in to a sharp bitter finish. Too much fizz. Another typical, not particularly satisfying English bottled beer. Not sure why I bought this in Lidl when I could have had the real thing in the pub. Not sure what its Yuletide connection is either.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
50cl bottle from Lidl. Golden amber with a dense off-white head; standard Shep hoppy aroma with a touch of treacle and spice; slightly sour malt flavour, refreshing and lively in the mouth, although appearing only lightly carbonated; dry biscuity hops to finish. Pleasant enough but not particularly Christmassy.
