3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear copper colour with creamy tan head. Lacing nicely and lasting at the moment...Hops and a touch of skinkiness in aromas - damn clear bottles. Thin and somewhat blandly caramel malty. Hops evident slightly in lingering finish, but without much bitterness or life to them. It’s not terrible but it’s not flavourful or bitter enough for my liking.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Broken record here, but I’d love to try this on cask; it the pasteurized clear bottle, I got a skunky aroma and taste. The pour was classic bitter orange, but the body was thin, carbonation was quite low, and the hop presence was subtle. I didn’t enjoy it at all, and I enjoy British Ales. Disappointing.

4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Colour: Dark copper with a tingle of orange-red. The white foam is soft, yet quite compact. It got a surprisingly neutral smell considering the taste, although here are tones of fresh apples and apricots.
The carbon dioxide is really all that one could ask for: Nice and soft, noticeable but gentle. When it comes to taste, one gets even more delighted: A perfect balance of body, sweetness, bitterness and a complex blend of different hints! The bitterness and the sweet tones of apricots, peaches and butter mix in an exemplary way.
Then, when you just sit back and smile, the aftertaste brings you even more of bitterness, dried fruits and fresh cucumber.
Yes, this is one of my all time favourite beers, and I am very grateful to those people in Kent who makes this fantastic brew. One of my all-time-favourites!

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2004 Nice bitter - floral aroma, could have been more bitter, in fact, it should have had some more flavour. Easy drinking but no big deal. Great bottle though.

500ml clear bottle. Somewhat earthy and malty aroma. Decent coppery appearance with a small dense white head. Starts malty with some kind of mineral like flavour, then bitter hops appear in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A well rounded brew with plenty of malty and hoppy flavours - a malty beginning with a bitter finish. Not a really full flavoured English bitter though.

Bronze in colour with a metallic caramel aroma. Watered down caramel and malt flavours ends with a metallic taste as well. From a ESB? Shameful!

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Not sure I like the clear bottle!!! Aroma is malty, and sweet. Nice rouge colour though, I really like that. Taste is a little off balance though, could be better. Hoppy, but watery, a little upsetting. Too bad , this could have been a lot better.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2005 Nitro Keg Spitfire Smooth - lacks most of the flavour of the cast variety. God for what it is.
