Cask at Wharf Rat. Pouts hazy copper with almost no head. Tastes like light, delicate malt with some floral notes, light citrus, and a hint of dry, sour grapes. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like light malt, grapes, a little musky and nutty.

On tap at the Beer Bay, Hong Kong. Nice and hoppy but too carbonated. As good as you can get for a bitter in HK ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear orange/brown with a medium sized white head. A bit low on flavour; nutty, earthy, wooden, light grass, caramel, light bready. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation light/medium sweet and bitter. Nothing fancy, but easy to pour down.

Draft @ Brewhouse Pub. Aroma is quite hoppy, earthy and herbal, nice malt note. Flavour is a but dull in comparison to the aroma, more watery then expected. Prefer the bottle.

Backlog. On tap @ Green Lion Inn. A solid example of a regular bitter, just not enough to be impressive though.

Deep amber appearance, not much of a head. Aroma is hoppy and spicy. A smoooth taste which has malt and hops in the background. Distinctive Shepherd Neame taste. Pretty good.

Spitfire is a great example of a best bitter. Kentish fruity hops are offset by maltiness, with some floral notes throughout. No need to be snobby - I’m not a fan of some other shepard neame brews, but spitfire is a safe bet which is often underrated. It’s ruined by poor cellaring and pipes in some pubs, and can taste pretty cheesy, but it usually does the job on a cold afternoon. Quite high ABV for a bitter, but this is subtly done.
