A classic beer of true quality, Spooks Ale is characterised by its huge biscuity malt palate, derived from three traditional roasted barley malts used in this brew, giving a glorious deep red hue. The excitingly complex malty flavours are wonderfully balanced by a huge citrusy, hoppy bitterness and aroma from a particularly fruity hop added at four stages in the brewing process.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours mahogny with a big creame white head. Malty, sweet and slightly spicy aroma. Taste of light rosted malt, lemon cest and some citrus juice. Too sharp carbonation, otherwise a rather nice brew.

Sample at a tasting. It poured a clear golden liquid with a dirty white head. Flowery smell with some bready malt. Similar but milder taste. A bit boring, doesn’t go in any particular direction.

God men doften lovade ännu mer. Ändå en strålande special bitter. Helt min kopp te.

Dark copper colour, clear, with a rich foamy head. Fruity, malty aroma, some burnt sugar. Roasted and malty taste, rough bitterness at the end.

Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear copper, large off-white head. Slightly caramelly and nutty malt aroma with some floral and perfumy hops. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Dry with a bit minerally bitterness.

@ Basunen: lite lätt sötmaltig doft. Smaken är likaså och med en hint av brunsocker. Ingen jättespännande öl. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Bottle). Sweet aroma of caramel malt and a little smoky syrup. The taste is sweet and malty with a slightly burnt toffee tone. The aftertaste has a slightly dry and grainy maltiness and a hoppy bitterness with grapefruit flavor. Not my kind of beer, to much grainy malt in the taste!

Dark amber with nice thick head. Aroma dark fruits, roasted malt chocolate. Taste sweet roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate, hops, Light body, smooth, carb aver. Finish bitter. A bit thin in character and gets watery after awhile.

Aroma: Smelling mostly butter, a metallic hint.
Appearance: A clear dark brown amber, a warm off-white head, good lacing. Some curtains.
Taste: Butter, butter scotch, dark bread, orange marmalade peel.
Palate: Little carbonation, soft with a medium body, a dry finish.
Overall: Not spooky, no trick, no real treat.
Note: Bottle 500 ml. Reviewed 2012-09-01.
