Lightly hopped flavour yet a slightly sweet nose from this redish beer. Generally a dull flavoured beer, but ok.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
loved this. I felt there was a lot going on with fragrant lemon zest, a good anchoring of malt body that never dominated, and a refreshing hit of hoppy bitterness, all held together with a generous mouthfeel that oozed quality. There were no rough edges, and it all melled together splendidly. My personal beer of the month.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Attractive gold brown colour. Reasonably interesting aroma, some hops and a faintly sweet caramelly flavour. Overall a very pleasant ESA. I think maybe I prefer the Neame Spitfire bitter.

Hoppy in smell and taste. A tiny bit of burnt.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2003 Aroma is similar to Newcastle Brown Ale with a buttery maltiness backed up by a waft of hop resins. Copper brown in colour and with a well balanced body, the alcohol and hops creeps back up your throat and fills your nose with a warming blast.
