Bottle at Chriso’s tasting in London, 121230. Clear golden beer with a small offwhite head. Sourish spicy aroma, grass, hay, a bit harsh and rather unbalanced. Sharp hoppy grassy flavor, hay, perfume, citrus notes, a bit floral. No good.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Dashimus (158) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 27, 2012
Pours clear, moderate amber with a small quite head and allot of carbonation. Aroma is hoppy with a hint of spices. Flavours of caramel, and stronger bitter aftertaste. Little body makes for a slightly disappointing drink.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Beesbeer (349) - WALES - DEC 6, 2012
Nothing too exciting, although if you enjoy light bitters this one you’ll enjoy. Slightly metallic and hints of ginger (?) and lemon zest. Light hoppiness and a little malty caramel.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 SarkyNorthener (600) - Walsall (Yorkshire Expat), West Midlands, ENGLAND - DEC 2, 2012
Bottle from lidl 3.8%. Dark amber colour, medium foamy head. Aroma is mild malts. Taste is a little caramel and bitter hops. Nothing special at all. Very watery and weak. Not a very good beer, this tastes like all of the other SN bottles from lidl just weaker in everyway.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 SilkTork (4898) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - NOV 2, 2012
500ml brown glass bottle from corner shop bargain bin in Brighton. Best before November 2012. Crystal malt - some chocolate notes and stale chocolate. A lot of staleness and mustiness. That is possibly more to do with my reaction to crystal malt as it is to the fact that this beer was made and filtered a year ago. Hop notes are very reduced. Not a very attractive beer.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 BlackHaddock (2350) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - JUN 12, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle (unusual for Sheperd Neame and their clear glass bottles) poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 12th June 2012.
Looked OK: bright and clear chestnut brown body with a good, strong foaming head of white.
Malts in the nose with some dried fruit trying to play: but not a heavy smelling brew.
Bland for a Winter Warmer with weak flavours of maltiness with a slight hop presence towards a mildly bitter finish.
Disappointed: yet another supermarket brew from this brewery that fails to excite.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 berkshirejohn (3639) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - JAN 12, 2012
50cl bottle from Lidl with an ABV of 4.0%. Unusually for SN this is a brown bottle rather than clear - but still has the traditional SN shape. Pours bright amber with a fast fading white head; has that distinctive SN aroma; clean flavour with light biscuity malts and a hint of fruit; and then a light spicy bitterness to finish. Rather good.
