3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 declan88 (2) - Greater London, - JAN 15, 2012I noticed a lot of people gave this a parson’s egg of praise which it might deserve for the woeful sport sales lingo associated with it.
But nobody recommended readily available examples of better beers e.g. more hoppy, but not sweet.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

bottle from jaghana - merci! Clear brown-golden colour, mid-sized off-white head. Malty with lots of caramel and some rather shy hops in the finish. Shy fruity touch in the background.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 BlackHaddock (2353) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2012
Clear 500ml bottle, poured into a UK pint sleeve in Sep 2011.
Dull Ruby red body, thin white covering for a head.
The smell was of roasted malts, semi-sweet.
The taste was fairly dry but with a malty front, brown toast malty rather than sweet molasses malty.
I struggled with it, the 4% ABV didn’t seem to sit right and although it’s colour was fine it didn’t back it up with any depth or rich flavours one could shout about.
A fairly boring brew all round.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Allen (2670) - SWITZERLAND - MAR 23, 2012
Bottled 50cl. Courtesy of jaghana. "Master brewer’s choice"- what a cheesy label and name for this beer. Some lacework. Buttery. Light bodied. Poor. Useless. Thanks a lot jaghana!
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 zacgillbanks (957) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - MAR 1, 2012
Bottle from Lidl in Gateshead. Copper coloured with a sweet red fruity and malty flavour, followed by the ususal Shepherd Neame almond and woody finish.

Bottle, Lidl Scunthorpe. Chestnut brown, fluffy but shortlived creamy white head and gentle condition. Vaguely peppery hop resin in the nose, gentle sweet caramel in the mouth with a background tinny note, returning sweet caramel in the finish but all in all very subdued.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 jaghana (2829) - Strasbourg (France), FRANCE - FEB 13, 2012
Bottle 50cl from Lidl Lingolsheim !! what a wonder. A clear amber beer with good head. Nose is caramel like and hopy. Aroma is very hopy, caramel like, body is watery but finish is very nice on hops bitterness. It’s ok.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 alexcandy (59) - Whitstable, Kent, ENGLAND - NOV 24, 2011
Bottle from the Shepherd Neame brewery shop.
Aroma - strong. hops, burnt, maybe wet rust
Appearance- dark brown/red bear with coffee head. more head than a most Shepherd Neame beers
Taste-smooth, bitter, brunt toast, blackberry
I didn’t expect to like this but its not bad. Not sure I would go looking for it but if I saw it for sale I would buy a few bottles.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DruncanVeasey (6114) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Premier, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - NOV 14, 2011
Bottle from Lidl- something to do with egg-chasing? Clear chestnut with a stable beige foam. Sherbety, slightly blackcurrant-inflected aroma with pecan and toffee hints; a pinch of hop cone as always. Flavour has soapy lemon and blackcurrant hop notes over a slightly nutty, bread and digestive base. Then that spoiling, astringent aftertaste dragging it down a notch. Pasteurised alright. No better than OK.
