3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2010 Draught at Tadgís. A bit of caramel backs this earthy hop fest. Some citrus, but mostly earthy, somewhat dirty, and very bitter hops. A solid, clean, manís drink. Very interesting and great balance.
Fresh Hop version, 2008. Bottle from Yamaoka. 7/4/8/4/15
Deep amber to copper color, darker than expected, thin lacy head. Amber malt aroma, caramel, earth, great hops, slightly fruity. Rich, malty flavor, good sweetness, earthy caramel, a hint of chocolate. Very rich and flavorful with big hops as well, with pine and citrus. Close to an amber. Rather thick, smooth palateónot really IPA like thereóbut good. A flavorful and satisfying drink, more of an amber than a typical IPA, but with fragrant and bitter IPA-style hops.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very piney, woodsy, amber, and some nice malty flavours here. Also, a sweet syrupy feeling on the lips. This is a good IPA but pales in comparison to their House IPA.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, thanks to eyedrinkale for sharing. Amber / ruby pour. Aroma is biscuity malt, some citrus hops and earthy hops. The flavor is the same, decent IPA, but again the bottle might be a little old.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from EDA. Lots of hops, stewy tomato in the aroma. More tomato in the taste, some hops, thin body. Hop forward but not quite quenching or refreshing. Not too bad, but the vegetal flavor gets in the way a bit.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
330mL bottle. Hazy orange/amber. NO head. Musty pine aroma. Flavor is a clean watery malt. Slight bitterness, very balanced. Except for the label this beer is very forgettable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
thanks TimE! / stamped 0706 / subtle, nice aroma; hazy orange-copper body, orange highlight, small off-white head; similar to the House IPA; resiny, orange hoppy bite over a calm, subtle sweetness; a little sticky, not that spicy; altogether creamy, smooth, and tasty! for an IPA--in this case, west coast meets far east--is is fíing great!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
The multifarious hoppiness of this West Coast IPA expands from its citrusy, orangey fruitiness to resinous earthy kingdoms, as malts support their flight while contributing some caramel sweetness. This is an absurdly drinkable, kind, and flavorful IPA from Nagano prefecture.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A clinging head sits atop the lightly hazy glowing amber.
-Balance is nearly achieved, but I donít think that was the point anyway.
-The smooth effervescence and healthy body make this a happily quaffable IPA.
-The herbal, resinous hop finish might reach 55-60 IBUs?

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to Whitey7183 for this bottle. Pours an amber color with an off white head. Aroma is of plenty of citrus hops, caramel, sweet malts, and some yeast. Starts a little sweet with floral hops and sweet malts that give way to citrus hops. Decent dry, bitter finish that lingers. Still a little lighter then what I usually like in an IPA but is still pretty decent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a copper color with a smallish light tan head. Aroma is fresh fruit, citrus hops(orange mainly), and sweet malts. Hops? In a Japanese IPA? Finally! Theyíre not as powerful as youíd get in an American IPA, but up to this point Iíve been sorely dissapointed with the sweetness of Japanís IPAs. This has a nice hop biterness to it right from the start. Sweet, citrus fruits flow into floral and malt. Finshes with a decent dry hop bite. Could still use more hops, but this is a step in the right direction.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Medium offwhite coarse head. Slightly hazy amber body with carbonation. Light resiny hop aroma with notes of roastiness. Taste is bitter resiny hops with notes of tropical fruit and wood. Dry wooden aftertaste. Some chalk. Quite good. (0.33l bottle.)
