ante (2525), Stockholm, Sweden May 10, 2008 Bottled, thanks goes to yhe omh-crew. Pours out in a cloudy dark brown colour with a creamy tan-coloured foam. deep aroma of roasted malts, molky chocolate, cocoa, mild smoke and molasses. Medium-bodied with creamy and well-intergrated flavours of nuts, cocoa-powder, coconut and milky chocolate. Sweet coffee, nuts and dark chocolate in the medium-bitter aftertaste.
buzzoven (154), Japan Oct 7, 2008 Shiga Kogen represents the best of ji-biru in my opinion, but their porter is, unfortunately their weak link. Roasted smell atop the slightly sudsy head and black/more dark brown body. Taste is slighly malty, slightly oily, slightly chocolate, but never really settling on any given theme. Not a terrible attempt, but one that falls into the "just another porter" category due to the uneventful body and unsettling mouthfeel. Eyedrinkale (3111), Beer Town, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours with an enormous light tan head. Aroma is light cocoa and brown crayon. Nice lively mouthfeel, more on the hoppy, side then the creamy side. Theres a light coffee flavor as well. This borders on being a very good beer with a few flavor tweaks. djtoucan (30), Tokyo, Japan Jul 2, 2008 Taste very close to the Ebisu Black but higher quality and more of a fruity wine/chocolate/coffee after taste. One of the better Shiga Kogen beers out of the Pale and and IPA and I’m not a porter type person. Taste like it should be a strong 8% ABV but it’s not overly strong tasting to where it’s not enjoyable and only 5.5% ABV. Good very cold or warm. I hope to go snowboarding up in Nagano again next winter to drink some more and bring some more porters home! omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden May 26, 2008 Bottled. Dark brown, small beige head. Light coffeea roma. Dryish with light to medium body. Some licorice and coffee - though it feels more like the watery American kind of coffee. A bit light overall, but strict and correct.
