Bart (2939) - Brussels, BELGIUM - AUG 20, 2011
Black coloured beer with medium carbonation and a small brown head. Light roasted sweet malty hinted and sweet chocolaty aroma. Full light creamy palate. Finish is creamy, strong bitter sweet. Nice stout however misses some sweet creamy bitterness.

The pour reveals a murky dark brown color with a thin beige head. Aroma of brown sugar and licorice. The flavor is very sweet, there’s licorice and brown sugar. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. Not bad, but a bit too sweet.

Dark brown in colour with a thin beige head, no lacing. Aroma is roasty, some soya sauce, chocolate, light burnt malts. Flavour has lots of soya, burnt chocolate malts, light roast, moderate bitterness. Bitter mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes long with a light roast then seems to disappear.

This was weird, lots of soya sauce for me. Bizarre.

Bottle at Mondial 2009 in Montreal, Quebec.

Sampled on June 4, 2009.

Black coloured beer with small off-white head and no carbonation visible. A roasted aroma with a bitter touch. Full palate. Finish is malty, coffee like. Ok, there are much better though.

A deep dark stout with a thin moka head. An interesting aroma of plasticine, chocolate, raisins and alcohol. In mouth, dry malts, bitter chocolate mixed in with licorice, black strap molasses, astringent, intense and challenging. A rich and interesting Imp Stout. On tap at DDC, June 2009.

Bottled. Thanks Greg Koch for the treat. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt and roasted malt, and so is the flavor, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

In short: A nice creamy chocolaty and slightly fruity imperial stout
How: Tap at Dieu Du Ciel (special Japan Night during Mondial 2009)
The look: Black body topped by a very small tan head
In long: A basic chocolaty nose. Body is round and smooth and the carbonation is rather soft giving the beer a creamy feeling. Taste is bakery chocolate (not bitter black chocolate) with dark fruits here and there. Almost no roastiness sensation, this is a velvety beer. Another nice Shiga Kogen brew. I’m overall pretty impressed by this Japanese brewery. The brewer has his job secured and won’t have to take non-speaking roles in Hollywood war movies to make ends meet.
