Draft. Plum and cranberry skin and chocolate and roast featured heavily in the nose. There’s some black patent inkiness with some lighter herbal / spice / pepper accents. Unfortunately the husky malts come across as burnt sugar and burnt popcorn. Sweet, chewy black malt syruiness with chalky and pasty yeast and a watery and flabby body. Medium-high bitterness, lightly acidic, very sweet. Mostly minor flaws like some sour burnt grains and astringent campfire wood with a lengthy cloying black malt finish. Meh. When warmer and having breathed there’s some more hair spray / chemical notes and the plum and cranberry fruitiness seems more like a mass of overripe, almost-rotting dark / red fruits.

On tap @ Shine. Black pour with a thin ring of tan head. Aroma of oatmeal, roast, and fudge. Coffee, slight ash, burnt sugar, and some licorice. Hints of dark fruit and earth. Flavor is roasted malt, ash, licorice, and fudge. Burnt sugar, molasses, and some dark fruit sweetness. Slight chewiness, some oatmeal/cookie notes.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2012 Tap @ Shine. Black appearance with a dark brown head. Somewhat fruity, green apple (another infection?), roasty, burnt malty aroma. Tangy, pear, honey, apple, roasty malty, chocolate flavor. Either this is also infected or just sucks balls. (1.9)<br<
This time didn’t have the issues that I had last time and it was overall a pretty nice, roasty stout. Not bad.
