There is also some complementary caramel. Decent, with a light feeling and lightly carbonated body. roborb (61), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

The aroma consists of dark fruits, grain and caramel. The pour left a 1 inch thick head that dissipated quickly and little to no lacing. The taste was a surprise for me. It was rather refreshing and I think I would enjoy it more on a hot day. It had a good solid finish. I could drink this as a session beer with no problems. Nice beer from Shiner and looking forward to some more. Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2009 By far the most ratebeer worthy product Shiner has produced. Aroma of sweet caramel, apples and plum. Sweet toastiness on the palate with a solid, lingering finish. Good drinkability for 6.7%....I may crush this 6 pack on a Wednesday night if I’m not careful. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Obtained from the Binny’s in Orland Park, Illinois: This pours a dark orange body with a creamy, short-lived off-white head. There were two small spots of lace left on the glass. It has an aroma of honey-coated toasted grain. Same with the flavor. Sticky sweet finish. This seems awfully lightweight to be called a Doppelbock. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Via trade. Pours a translucent dark copper with a thin head. The nose is sweet, malty, fruity, Belgian feel?. Flavor is similar, Belgian dopplebock almost, earthy fruity feel, sweet, caramely malt. Mild metallic bitterness. Not bad. nqualls (1435), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 20, 2009 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear amber color with a thin off white head. The aroma was dark fruit and alcohol. The flavor was sweet honey, grain and an alcohol finish. This wasn’t any good. I had expected a little more. BillKismet (1962), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 20, 2009 Mahogany with a fitting topping. Some roasty notes greet the nose, but I was still unprepared for the sweet roastiness that greeted my lips. Strong dose of munich malting with distinct toasted caramel character. Reminds me more of a roasty dunkler bock or Italian-style doppelbock. I found this surprisingly enjoyable with a good amount of complexity. Quite quaffable.
