COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

This came in a six-pack of Shiner tasters. I picked it up at Fairfield Liquors in Newark DE for about $7. A - Pours a very bland black lager color. Nearly translucent in the pour and very little depth. I’m getting a finger head that has some black notes and quickly dissolves. This reminds me a lot of the appearances of Guinness’ Black Lager S - The smell is actually pretty great! There’s no doubt it’s a lager but with some cinnamon sugar and raisins are coming through. Lots of maltiness as well. T - Malt, some citrus and some other dry fruits are in here. Very deep black taste but very drinkable! Some hop but mostly malt and a dry finish. M - Lots of foam as I swish it around, the beer is very light and an easy drinking beer. O - Color me surprised. I did not expect to like this beer. Every other beer included in the Shiner 6er was pretty terrible. The floral hops, bready yeast and very malty finish is quite good! Don’t chase this one down but if you see it, grab it.

From a 12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black. Head dissipates almost instantly. Nose is typical of American macro. Almost no taste. Weak aftertaste with coffee hint. Weak. I want beer with flavor.

Decent beer. Malt, particularly roast, in the nose. The appearance is black with a disappearing head. Taste is most roast malt, but not fantastic. The body is medium and fairly smooth.

From notes: Pours clear red-black with a small, thin tan head and some bubbling along the wall of the glass. Aroma of roasty malt. Medium-thick with a slight depth of body. Light, caramelly sweet taste with a roasty note in the finish.

Bottle from liquor store in Chula Vista: Poured a dark brown hue and a thick layer of tanned colored head. In the nose, it smells sort of soapy and only has a minimal amount of caramel malts. The flavor was simple and bland with a notice of caramel malt and lightly toasted malt, but nothing substantial to make this beer a repeat.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear very dark brown with a small fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Nothing in the way of lacing. Aroma is toasted malt and old coffee. No hops are present. Taste is toasted malt with a tiny bit of a burnt acrid flavor. Really not much in the way of bitterness and there is a sweetness throughout. Some coffee flavors present. Overall this is an ok brew from shiner but is pretty lackluster. There are better examples of this style out there.

A black body with a brown head that disappeared quickly. A light aroma of toasted malt, and the flavor is toasted malt with a steady aftertaste.

Location/Date:Bottle on December 18th, 2011.

Appearance: Pours a dark brownish-black.
Aroma: Aroma is of roasted malt with something sweet.
Taste: Medium bitterness upfront, followed up by heavy amounts of roasted malts with a hint of sweetness.
Palate:Medium light body, some fizz/carbonation.

Summary: A solid example of this german style, the only thing holding it back to me is some slight fizz in the palate. Very solid.
