Bottle. Pours dark amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of malt and caramel and a hint of meat? Maybe pepperoni? I almost left that out, but I swear I get a hint of something and that best describes it. No, I am not eating pizza right now. MMMMM.... pizza. Please let this beer taste like pizza! Dang! It does not. It does however taste of toasted malt and slightly burnt coffee that gives way to a subtle sweetness finishing with tingly carbonation. Decent beer. B

My philosophy on Shiner (and Sam Adams) is the same as that of an El Camino. It does everything well but nothing great and this beer exemplifies the nothing great side. Watery with a half decent aroma but basicallly its a pissed away version of a good beer. Like if you started doing something good but then realised Entourage was on so you half assed it.

smells like a malty sack of pennies. tastes like one too...? crisp, malty and refreshing with lingering licorice and iodine. decent beer but a lighter version of the real schwarzbier... and i can’t seem to escape that metallic taste.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: MAR 9, 2008 Pours dark mahogany with a thin, mostly receding light tan head. Aroma of bready malt, stale crystal malt, caramel, and light papery notes of oxidation, and toasted malt. Tate of light caramel, foaminess and adjuncts. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark reddish-brown color. Roasted malt and earthy burnt sugar aromas. Favors of cola, burnt coffee, and smoky chocolate to some extent. Finish is well-rounded and mild with some dry hops. Refreshingly crisp and mouthwatering in a lighter style that proves Shiner can actually make a good product.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled on 8/3/06: Pours a transparent dark copper brown with a thin, wispy off-white head. Has a smoky toasty caramel malty aroma. Lightly smoky and sweet malty body dries out quickly toward a fizzier finish. A decent brew, fairly true to style.
