COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Black-red with a head that quickly fades leaving a dark cola appearance. Dank saaz hop aroma though crisp. Easy malt and European hop flavors meld together. Easy-drinking, mildly pleasant.

This beer should be better. I am a fan of schwarzbier, and while this one is decent (it beat’s the very common Kostriker hands down and the Rahr is terrible!), it doesn’t stand up to Schulteiss or even the Sam Adams Black Lagers. A little bit too much roasting going on here. A little burned, , which gives this a not so pleasant after taste. Still good though, and Shiner should keep this around.

Dark Brown with an average off-white head. Aromas of malt and chocolate. Malty taste with a little roastiness.

Light aroma of rye bread, malt and chocolate. Pours an almost black color but head disappates pretty quickly. Chocolate and malt but with a little chalkiness. Acidic and watery.

Shiners best yet. I found a couple of these in my cooler after a party. I’ll try any Texas beer once. This ones definitely worth repeating.

Pours into a glass a dark, dark brown, almost black like cola. Has a very thin head. It’s a smooth, sweet coffee brew with a hint of chocolate finish. Somewhat bitter.

12oz bottle. Nearly opaque ruby brown-black, with a small light brown head. Faint nutty, caramel aromatics. Toasty malt flavors, tinges of earthiness. Some chocolate and caramel, with an herbal hop component. Some bitterness in the finish with residual toasty flavors. Mouthfeel is light, somewhat dry.

Tasted 2/23/08. 12oz bottle. Dark brown and almost opaque. Moldy khaki head. Toast and caramel aromas. Medium bodied with a bright crisp and sweet palate. Punch of coffee. Finishes mildly sticky and pleasantly coating. Bright effervescence. Nutty and fuggy flavors. Zesty with a mild yeast character. Toast and coffee. No Diacytyl, which is refreshing.

Pours a pitch black, rather thin tasting but with a good smoky flavor. Definitely one of the best Shiner beers I have had but I wouldn’t buy again.

Light, malty nose of mild coffee and caramel. Virtually no head, diminishing during and immediately following the pour. The body appeared thick and black with very little light allowed to shine through. The taste is the best. A lightly acidic start with a malty/salty finish, almost like coffee. A noticeable body on the tongue that is oily and soft with a slightly metallic end that is not sticky on the lips. A very good beer overall, easily enjoyed with or without food.
