3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2006 Bottle. Pours black with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is roasty with some coffee, and a hint of dark fruit. Taste is sweet roasted malt, with a hint of dark fruit, and finishing with lingering coffee and light bitterness. One of the better schwarzbiers Iíve had.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. I really liked this beer. Nice creamy head and very malty and smooth taste. My brother brought me some of this on his last visit. I wish it was sold around here.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: APR 6, 2011 (Bottle 12oz) Dark brown (almost black) with medium to thick but quickly dissipating light brown head. Nose is roasted malts, some coffee and faint dark chocolate. Aroma is sort of half lager, half ale (some fruity notes). Taste is sweet roasted malt and coffee especially in the after taste (along with dust), but it ends a little watery. Some fruit-tartness up front. Thin body.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a twelve ounce bottle purchased at "Liquor Direct" across the Ohio River in Covington, Kentucky -Pours a black brew with a rapidly disapating w
tan head of foam and a coffee-cocao arome. Tastewise, this simply is the best beer of the Shiner brands, but it still suffers from tasting a bit thin... but not too much so.

3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark brown with a tall, firm khaki head. Aroma is mild dark malts, faint roast or black patent. Thereís a faint soapy element that Iím not pleased with.
Taste is a mild roast malt, fairly bitter. Maybe some black patent or chocolate malts, not a lot of discernable hops. Flavor is a lot like cold coffee without milk, nothing exotic or premium, just average joe. More mild malty sweetness, mild caramel elements and chocolate malt emerge as it warms slightly.
Mouthfeel is thin but clean. A good effort but rather lacking in depth. I liked this better toward the end of the glass than I did at the start.

Poured black with a thin biege head. Mild roasted aroma. Thin mouthfeel. Chocolate, brown sugar, and coffee on the tongue. Decent finish with a lingering aftertaste. Not a bad beer for itís style.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour is a nice black with a small tan head. Aroma is a slight roasty but not much else comes to the surface. Flavor is decent with lots of chocolate and coffee. Finish is a bitter coffee with a thick mouthfeel. Pretty decent especially for Shiner.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2006 Pours dark brown w/ a shallow semi creamy froth that quickly dissapates to a fine layer of dust on the surface.Aromas of charcoal are strong w/ a hint of brown sugar. Light to medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are dry and crisp w/ a moderate roasty character. Nuances of cocoa, wood, blackened leather. The finish is bittered w/ a slight tartness. Overall: Itís too roasty for how little malt is extracted. Not balanced.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I drank out of the bottle for lack of a glass. The aroma was dark chocolate malts and a little fruity. Palate is true to the schwarzbier style. Before I read the label I said, "itís a schwarzbier". Delicious. I didnít know Shiner made anything like this.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle) Pours black and opaque with a small head. Roasted notes... but like all of the Shiner beers, it is pretty thin. Some coffee as well. Not bad overall. Iíd much rather drink this beer than other Shiner beers.
