A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Actually pretty good; I didnít care for it as much the first time. Poured from a bottle into an ice cold, handled beer mug, pours black as expected with a fluffy white head that lasted a bit. (Some other reviews said it went away quickly.) Aroma is mild, malty lager. Flavor is standard lager with some coffee undertones, and an enjoyable roasted finish.

Shiner brews all of their beers light to style. Bohemian Black Lager is not as chewy as I like a scwarzbier to be. It is also more brown than black. Itís a basic attempt at the style, nothing to really make it stand out, but itís drinkable.

Purchased in Vermont, part of their tester mixed-pack. Pours a dark cola-brown colour with a creamy beige top, good retention and some creamy lacing. Aromas of mild roasted malts with hints of vanilla and caramel. Again, light roasted malts with watered-down caramel malts. Not really sweet, not bitter. Just a decent lager that goes down smoothly and with darker edge.

12 oz pours a beautiful dark brown and has the aroma of coffee and chocolate...however the taste is very bland, dry, and watery

"Different label these days. Porter-like pour. Aroma a little dusty, but underneath a good dose of roasted malts, coffee, toffee sweet. Aftertaste great...chocolate, roasted malts, a kiss of smoke. Smooth, thin. Possibly the best Shiner Iíve had."

Dark brown pour, healthy beige head on this one. It provides excellent lacing. Aroma is toasted malts, mild pine hops on the nose too. Taste is cocoa, coffee, chocolate, and toasted oats. Thin mouthfeel, easy to drink. Pretty good overall.

Bottle - small foamy head, very dark amber/brown color, mildly roasty malt aroma and flavor, mild hop balance - not bad overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown with a thin tan head and a dark fruit, prune nose. Easy entry with a thin-medium palate followed by a dry, dark roast coffee and dark chocolate bitter finish.

Draft at Hill Country Barbecue Market in DC poured into a mason jar, 16 ounces Iím guessing. Dark brownish black with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, light dark fruit. Tastes of caramel, sweet malt, dark fruit, light roast. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Solid and better than expected.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. This pours dark brown with mahogany hues bubbling up to a long lasting, soft tan head. The aroma is dark and mildly smoked with a butterscotch, caramel malt note. The body is thin to medium. The taste has a nice dark, caramel malt backbone with only a mild bitterness to touch it up.

12oz into a jelly jar pint glass from Hops in the Hills 2011. Pours a rubbery black with fades of brown. Head is minimal, creamy brown, lacing is loose and sporadic. Aroma is black roasted malts, hay, burnt choco and dried cocoa nibs. Taste is malt dominated, a black supressant of muted cough syrup and black licorice. the roasted malts are below average and this brew just sits around congeling in itself making black lagers taste the same throughout time. Another joy of this mix pack I picked up. One more to go.
