A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. Subtle aroma of coffee, malt, chocolate. Flavor is of malt and coffee, with slight licorice and raisin flavors as well. Very smooth, but not a particularly flavorful beer. Refreshing.

Bottle - Grains and toasted malts with a sweet pale finish. Jet black with a thin beige head. Molasses and dark sweet malts. Date and prune. Odd discrepancy between nose and taste. Nose too sweet and taste if burnt molasses.

Dark, opaque brew with a yellowish head that dissipates quickly. Minimal head retention or lacing. Slightly sour aroma. Smoky taste that is smooth, but didn’t make much of an impression ... The taste is not something that would have me recommending this beer although I would drink it in the future if someone gave me one. Pleasant mouth feel -- creamy.

Very nice and thick. The beers from this brewery are classy. Although I thought I had it before. They are thick but easy to drink.

This lager is distinctive, much more flavorful than most lagers, with a deep color and an average head. Delicious malt taste is well-balanced with the hops. It is clearly a step above most of the Shiner beers that I have enjoyed.

Mild aroma. A good looking clack beer with no head. It has a mild malty flavor that goes down smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Pirini’s Ranch. Pours a deep brownish black with thin off white lacing. Aroma is thin sweet malt, light bread and vague hop. Mouthfeel is thin and lightly carbonated with notes of sweet malt, light grain and a vague hop character. Not smokey or roasty at all.
