COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

A deep dark pigment with very little head when poured. On the thinner than expected side, not bad.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit, herbal, light pepper, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit, herbal, light pepper, and roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, herbal, light pepper, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a very good schwarzbier style. All around good robustness and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Drank from a twelve ounce bottle, traded from a fridge. Smells of roasty malts. Tastes watered down, slightly roasted, nothing really else there...

Bottle thanks to Eugene. Dark, nearly black, tan head with little retention. Some chocolate; soft roasted malts; thin fizzy body. Milky sweetness, lightly metallic, minimally bitter end. Overall: I’m pretty sure the only thing I’ve learned from drinking all these beers is that for the most part they’re all pretty good. This isn’t sexy in any way, but it isn’t unpleasant either. If a 6-pack found its way to my fridge it’d get drunk in short order.

pours unclear light brown, orange tint, with a small light beige cap, minimal retention/lacing. sweetish and almost burnt caramel matliness, spicy berries, vegetal matter, touch of smoke, ashes, licorice, hot chocolate mix powder, chalky. light carbonation, light body - watery; balanced if not dry spicy finish. weak but not horrid macro schwarz.

All I can really say is wow... I love the dark color and the off white head. The smell is kinda just bleh, same old same old, but the taste is where it’s at... This is definitely the best beer I’ve ever had, so glad I took the chance on buying. Highly recommended

bottled - not a bad attempt at all. Nice roasted malt flavor with some chocolate thrown in there. Good color. Not much aroma. Not bad.

Very dark brown with a tan head. Nose has roasted and chocolate notes. Dry with medium sourness, burnt aroma. Light bodied and fizzy. Slight sweetness emerges as it warms.

Surprised this was a lager. Ale like, yeast, a nice porter like malt profile with a bit of darker malt as well. But still thin on the tongue like a porter. Slightly sweet. Dark cola pour.

Surprisingly good for a mainstream beer. Tan, short head, light bodied, kind of flat. Nice liquorish aromas with smoked notes. Short, alcoholic palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
