Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Apr 12, 2008 Pour was a clear brown with lighter copper notes. Little if any head, mostly just off-white bubbles spinning atop the beer. The aroma was malt with light hints of spice. Some bitter yeastiness. The flavor was lightly roasted malt and spice, all cut with an unpleasant bitterness. Lots of carbonation and a thin mouthfeel. Just barely a step beyond a BMC product. Meh. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Apr 11, 2008 Pours dark brown with a big creamy light tan head. Aroma of malt, toffee, perhaps a tinge of caramel. Flavour was very lacking and muted, but with a slight nutty characteristic to it. A somewhat watery bock with thin flavour.
thechandler (268), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Apr 10, 2008 Pours a clear brown color with a light, thin, head. Aroma is light. Slightly malty, with a hint of yeast. Flavor is pretty good. mostly malt. Little to no hop flavor. Reminds me of a Brown ale, only more carbonated and less flavorful. Pretty decent but nothing amazing. WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Apr 7, 2008 Pours a clear medium brown with lots of carbonation. Medium-sized, off-white head is made up of extremely large bubbles and dissipates quickly. Aroma and flavor are both malty with a solid dose of fruity sweetness. A little too much carbonation. Not something I would use a session beer, but a solid entry on a hot day or with food off the grill. As I recall, this is a classic American style dark lager. Nice malty flavors, sweet, and smooth. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 7, 2008 A tasting at Three Cellars Milwaukee. Fairly dark and a little heavy. Not bad. A decent backyard picnic drinker. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 4, 2008 Was in Dallas so had to try this...on tap at "The Tavern". A session beer when desperate or herding cattle (or both), this one is light brown with minimal bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. The nose and flavor are dominated by malty sweetness and little else is there. Easy drinkin’...giddyup!!! dkachur (2315), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 3, 2008 Bottle. My boss is from Texas and VERY proud of it. I got him a sixer of Shiner Bock, which he loves, and replaced two of the beers with Texas SUX beer (thanks to Soonah). Good thing he has a sense of humor about those kinds of things. So, I had two extra bottles, right? Well, the first one was combined with salt, pepper, garlic, butter and flour and made a god damned good sauce for my pork chops last night. And I figured for the last one... why not just drink it? I didn’t love it, but thought this was a good beer back in my macro days. Pours deep red with a small head that disappears quickly. Generic bitter malty aroma. A little caramel that does not want to be found. Taste is the same, minus the bitter. Malty, bready. A little bit of that typical macro lager taste I describe as "sweaty sock," but not so much as to be offputting. Medium body.
