I’ve had some froma tap that was amazing, and other times watery. From a bottle, I have had this beer taste near pristine, and other times it tastes dirty and old. So, that’s why it gets a middle of the road rating for me. Better than many beers out there, still not great. davidCC (130), New York, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Pours a rich brown, nothing special about the aroma, flavor is lacking and tastes a bit watery. Similar issue with other Shiner beers. jjuf1853 (471), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA

Decent aroma of malt and grain. Wouldn’t describe it as full-flavored. Pretty mild flavor with just a touch of bitterness at the end. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA

Nose is caramel, brown sugar, and some nut. Sweet toffee, brown sugar, chocolate and caramel. Some sweet fruit, apple, maybe some pear. OK, drinkable. esjaygee (1519), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Mar 16, 2008 12oz bottle. Reddish amber, large frothy head that goes away fast. Spicy aroma, smooth malty finish, low carbonation, a little mouth stripping going on here. Somewhat devoid of flavor. It looks and smells good but ends up being a dud. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 15, 2008 Weird to find this served in a deli up on Montrose and Ashland. Dark amber pour. Grainy flavor...sweet and cloying. The bitterness is not only "not excessive" it is non-existant. Naka (525), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Mar 12, 2008 Pours a dark amber color with very little head, but that could be because it was a really bad pour by the bartender. Nose of a caramely, grainy, malt sweetness. Kind of a flat taste. A little bit of bitter flavor, but there was just a weird skunk to it. Pretty thin body compared to what I think of as a bock.
