obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Sep 21, 2007 Weak aroma that smells like tinny beans. Looks like watered down soda, but with a thick off white head. Extremely watery, faint taste of beans. Tinny finish. Their black lager is decent, but this is dreadfully bad. I wouldn’t even shandy this it’s so watery. fawman101 (7), College Station, Texas, USA does not count Sep 14, 2007 A personal favorite, although I am biased. Slightly watery would be my only complaint. glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Sep 13, 2007 Bottle. Toasted and nutty was the only outstanding aromas, hops smelled of grass, and soap for the yeast. Head is frothy/fizzy, white, which is mostly lasting then fully diminishing after five minutes with no lacing. Color is clear light brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic then finishes lightly acidic and very slightly bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery and just a touch creamy, with soft carbonation. A middle of the road beer with nothing great but nothing offensive. wshores (57), Saltillo, Texas, USA Sep 11, 2007 I am forced to drink this on tap because of such little selection of tap beer around here. If you cant have something else it will work RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 8, 2007 Pours and dark amber with very little head. Nose is bland and barely there. Flavor is some what sweet with a slight hop edge - though uninspiring. Mouthfeel is pretty good with a slight froth to it. For some people I know this is a popular session beer, but this might be the last time I down it. No real redeeming qualities.
mikey (336), farmington, Utah, USA Sep 4, 2007 Poured a rich burnt copper with not much head. The nose was of caramel malt and yeast. The taste started with roasted malt and a bit of corn. The finish was metalic with very little hop bitterness. This doesn’t taste like a bock. It tastes more like Budweiser with a brown crayon in it. Don’t bother. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Sep 3, 2007 12oz bottle-A medium amber body with a small ring for a head that dissipates into nothing. Aroma of malt and slight hops. Taste of sweetness, malt, and nothing on the back end. I’ve never been impressed with this beer so I never understood the hype or non hype. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Sep 3, 2007 Updated: Nov 7, 2007Wow. How surprising that the effete reviewers here knock a very drinkable dark lager.
I will always have a fondness for this beer as, due to the obnoxious distribution laws in my state of Kentucky, you couldn’t buy Shiner anywhere in the state until recently.
Thus, as Coors used to be back in the Smokey and the Bandit days, not being able to buy Shiner made it that much more desirable.
Smooth dark lager with no bitterness. Quaffable in large quantities.
