Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 28, 2006 Bottle picked up in DFW. Kinda funny that my colleagues (and even the bartender at an excellent drinking establishment that I visited) use this as benchmark for a "dark beer". Poured a clear, translucent burnt sienna with a short-lived cap of whitish head. Nose was of sweet chalky caramel and few other distinguishing characteristics. Respectable in the flavor department, sporting sweet caramel, faint floral hops, and a hint of darker fruit. Not at all memorable on the palate, but it certainly wasn’t bad. Decent and cheap. dirtydawg (2), USA does not count Oct 27, 2006 I find Shiner to be a very flavorful beer beer for the price (also very attainable) I enjoy the heavy carbonation as well as its sweet palate brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 27, 2006 When I first moved up from Keystone/Bud to better beers, this one was impressive. But, it’s really not that great in comparison to some fo the micros I’ve come to love. Pass on it. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Oct 20, 2006 On tap-Arena’s-Rehoboth Beach DE-Poured a ruby amber color w/almost no head. Roasted malt aroma. Smooth, crisp, clean, roasted malt flavor. Not a lot of hops to it. Somewhat sweet. Not a terribly complex brew, but very enjoyable-definatly a good sesson beer. Reminds me somewhat of a Yuengling, but not quite as good. I would call this an amber, not a dark lager. uglyblond1 (173), Nebraska, USA Oct 18, 2006 A deep amber color. A malt and Mexican beer like aroma. Tastes a little sweet but nice malt complexity. Pretty smooth, but finishes with the distictive Shiner aftertaste that is just a bit off. Ron (1002), Rochester, New York, USA Oct 18, 2006 One bottle I got from when I visited my daughter at WVU. Clear brown color with a thin off-white head. Sweet malty aroma with some light corn. Thin flavor with some hints of darker malt, and a corn aftertaste.
limalimamoli (52), Oceanside, California, USA Oct 13, 2006 No hop aroma, some fruity esters, deep amber color. No head. but highly carbonated. Crisp and slightly sweet and low roasted malts. Lean mouthfeel. More flavor than a regular lager bingc (9), arlington, Texas, USA does not count Oct 12, 2006 very attainable beer.(at least in the south?) little or no head, sometimes seems overly carbonated. but very enjoyable.
