COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A few centuries ago, during the cold winter months, farmhands in Europe brewed a ‘seasonal provision’ Farmhouse Ale to be enjoyed once spring rolled around. In the farmlands of Shiner, TX that tradition lives on. Which is why our tribute to this style uses Golding, Sterling and Meridian hops for a sweet yet lightly spiced flavor. Our incredibly refreshing farmhouse ale bears the name of the farm to market road just to the south of where our brewery has proudly stood for over 100 years.

Aroma is bubble gum, spicy yeast and bananas, all very light in intensity. The flavor is spicy yeast, bubble gum and mildly sweet in the finish.

Very good, extremely refreshing and nice if you mix it with a slight drop of orange juice. Very enjoyable and aftertaste too

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, husks), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of banana, dish rag, pepper, fusel alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean, husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Ridiculously husky and dirty tasting. Saison? Hahaha. It’s vaguely Belgian-styled, I suppose, but come on...

Shiner FM 966 has a thick, fluffy, off-white head, a hazy, golden appearance, some streaming bubbles, and some lacing left behind. The aroma is very bursting- spicy pepper, cracker, subtle citrus, and some other indistinguishable smells. Taste is of spicy, yeasty malt, some hops, maybe coriander, white bread, and sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Shiner FM 966 finishes mostly dry, easy drinking, and delicious. Overall, this is nice and well made. I think it’s one that needs to be checked out. RJT

Shiner, keeping it real....ly bad. They make so many below mediocre beers. This one is slightly hazy with a tiny white head. Smells like a crappy sweet lager with a bit of saison yeast. Blech.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear medium gold with a fizzy one finger white head that is quick to fade into some wispy lacing on top and on the sides of the glass. Aroma is very Saison-like with hints of coriander and orange peel with a little underlying caramel. The yeasty citrus is quite nice and better than I was expecting. The flavor, however, is a bit of a let-down. Citrus and coriander up front but it is very dialed back and weak. A tiny bit of acidity before the abundant carbonation washes away nearly all hints of flavor. Mouthfeel is extremely dry which is nice but it nearly goes too far and becomes chalky. Absolutely no lingering finish which is really a shame. Overall, there is a lot of potential with this beer but it just falls short. I feel like Spoetzl was trying to play it safe and appeal to the masses but it is a little too safe. While this is not something I would pick up on a regular basis, it could be a good introduction to the style.

Bottle @ home picked up at Wilburs Foco. Pours a fairly clear, golden orange appearance with an off white head. Slight skunk/cat pee, a bit spicy yeasty, mild citrusy, dirty aroma that is really not pleasant. A bit herbal, quite spicy yeasty, tangerine/orange fruity, herbal, fairly bitter flavor. This is really not good, but would be an excellent beer for Ernest to rate.

12 oz. bottle - Pours a clear golden color with a one finger thick white head. light lacing. Aroma is esters, light spice with a hint of soap. Flavor is fruity esters with a dose of light herbal hops. Light to medium body. A decent drinking beer. Not your typical Saison though.

Tastes more like a witbier than a saison which is why most people complain about it.
