A few centuries ago, during the cold winter months, farmhands in Europe brewed a ‘seasonal provision’ Farmhouse Ale to be enjoyed once spring rolled around. In the farmlands of Shiner, TX that tradition lives on. Which is why our tribute to this style uses Golding, Sterling and Meridian hops for a sweet yet lightly spiced flavor. Our incredibly refreshing farmhouse ale bears the name of the farm to market road just to the south of where our brewery has proudly stood for over 100 years.

Tan and hazy. Head was less than half a finger and lacing was ok at best. Aroma is pretty good. Bubble gum, yeast, coriander, spices. Flavor is also pretty good. Spices, yeast, and a notable hops presence are forward, accented with coriander, bready malts, and a bit of funk. Body is less carbonated than what I’d usually expect in a saison, but it’s not much of a detractor. It’s pretty easy drinking, and actually quite tasty. I’m quite happy with this one from Shiner. I didn’t think they’d do a saison that well, but it’s not bad. It’s not world class, but it’s drinkable.

12oz bottle. FIltered orange-tan body, active big carbonation bubbles rising. Thin, soda like head. Definitely in the spiced US variety, doesn’t bare much resemblance to a good Belgian example in it’s mouthfeel. Cleanish in it’s filtration, but kind of a flowery mess with the spices sort of limiting and hop flavors. A touch grainy in the finish. Drinkable, but not that impressive of an offering.

12 oz bottle pours pale amber with a white head. Aroma of caramel, grass, yeast and a hint of spice. Taste is sweet malts, grass, bread and spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I try not to be dismissive of a beer because of the label. I really do. I don’t want to be one of those people who go "Oh, Shiner, I bet this is gonna suck.". That being said, this tastes exactly like you’d think a saison from Shiner would taste like.

Bottle. Pours a crystal clear copper color with a moderate frothy white head. Nose is a little sour with citrus elements to it. Taste is light and crisp with some sourness to it as well, though it’s not overpowering. Good brew.

Bottle. The look is clear, goldenish in color, and a light white head. The smell is light spicy, yeasty, fruits, melon, and ok. The taste is the same as the taste with slight corn.

Poured from bottle, little head, very nice golden color, almost no aroma (hops maybe), light bready and yeast flavor, doesn’t last. The mild sour doesn’t last, very little to differentiate. Boring. My father described it as, " watery colt 45 malt liquor"

24oz bottle. Aroma is of yeast with a little skunk. The appearance is a dark gold with little tan head. The taste farmhouse yeast with some almost saison skunk at the end. The palate is yeasty with a skunky aftertaste. Overall, i am impressed with this beer coming out of shiner. I wonder if the masses of bock fans will enjoy it. Decent beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
