COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shiner Hefeweizen (Hef-ay-vite-zen) is a classic unfiltered Bavarian-style wheat brew. Once poured into a glass, the distinctively cloudy Shiner Hefeweizen delivers a fresh, satisfying flavor from start to finish.

Clear, yellow, thick head and tons of carbonation. Some hops aroma and some smell of sugar. Some banana and fruit in the taste and actually a bit creamy too. A little bitter in the finish. Seems like there’s a bit more hops in this than in most hefeweizen’s I’ve had. Could use a bit more traditional flavors provided by yeast and fermentation.

This is ok. Initially by appearance, I thought that this would be better than it is. Pours a nice hazy yellow with a white head - which disappears too quickly. Taste is pretty light and without any yeast or wheat. Not at all what I would expect from a hefe.

light and cloudy yellow color, very fluffy head. Aroma is a very subdued wheat. Flavor is of soda and cardboard. Slightly sweet, not very good. Very bland overall, and not as fun to dirnk as a german hefeweizen. Bottle from Stop and Shop, Miami.

Has a pretty sweet/citrus taste to it, not too overpowering. It’s a pretty basic hefenwezien. Nothing too big.

Pours a hazy deep gold with a white head; some lacing. Aromas of wheat and citrus. Tastes the same with a slight bitter aftertaste. A drinkable wheat ale.

With craft Hefeweizens, their authenticity as true German-style Hefeweizens is always a questionable point, but the only way to find out for sure is to try.

His label is an unnaturally bright orange and as I pour his confined depths into awaiting glass, there is an eerie resemblance between the shocking orange label and his shocking orange depths. A fluffy head is a thankfully softer pithy orange which settles into a satisfactorily puffy blanket of foam. No lace to speak of, but he swirls thick, releasing a nose eager to please. Orange sherbet and orange sorbet dashes across my nose; blink and it’s gone. Delving deeper, I dredge up more orange with creamsicles and whipped egg whites in accompaniment. Intriguing, but certainly not a German-style hefeweizen. With absolutely no banana and clove phenolics, the Shiner Hefeweizen is in fact an American Wheat beer so why not label it as such? Because misleading marketing rules and the sheepish masses are willing to accept it unquestioningly. But I digress. My first quaff is very light, and so I take another…and another... Eventually I am able to discern amidst his sherbety mouthfeel orangesicles, orange cream, and orange sorbet with a rapidly growing rotten orange finish. Highly bitter and definitely faintly rank at the end, the rot thankfully doesn’t linger long. While artificial orange flavoring abounds, I discover some lost lemon ice in the back recesses of his palate, a refreshing zip which absolutely nothing. In spite of his non-hefeweizen palate and artificial flourish, I decide the Shiner Hefeweizen is not a drainpour. Bright orange sherbet lingers longest on top of my tongue as I finish my glass with a meh of neutrality.

Let me reiterate: the Shiner Hefeweizen is NOT a hefeweizen. That being said, she is a fruity orange American wheat beer that unfortunately suffers from an undercurrent of artificial flavoring and a faint rotten bitter orange finish.

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a small white head that lasts and laces a bit. Aroma has sweet grains, a bit of grass, banana and clove as well. Flavor begins with a sweet hint of banana but becomes more grassy and grainy towards the finish.
