2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mihalis (23) - Irving, Texas, USA - MAY 17, 2009
Pours cloudy pale yellow, typical of the style. Nose of orange peel and hops. Lots of carbonation. The citrus is a little too much for my taste, and it’s a little more bitter than one would expect from a Hefeweizen. Note quite sure what they were going for here, but definitely not my favorite Shiner. I’d take the "100 Commemorator" (a Bock) over this.

Overall Impression:
Slightly tart, but overall an average and inoffensive Hefe option, it’s macro-wheat beer in its qualities...

when they said brewed in orange and lemon peels they meant it...bitterness that hit the jaw bone...
it is what it is...

Mild and inoffensive...more of a session beer. Not very wheaty...a bit too catered to the average beer drinker.

12 oz bottle poured into weizen glass. Pale golden color. Clear, rather than cloudy, even though I swirled the last third of the bottle before finishing the pour. Heavy carbonation, but the head was minimal and short-lived. This does not LOOK LIKE a good hefeweizen. Simple citrus and crisp hop aromas. Watery and fizzy mouthfeel. Flavor is primarily citrus, with a crisp hop finish ending with an unpleasant bitterness. I practically grew up on Shiner Bock, but they missed the mark on this one. What happened to “the little brewery in Shiner”? This tastes like macro….

Moderate grainy wheat malt backbone. Big tart yeasty component with a nice citrus bite. Very quaffable wheat beer - not spectacular but you could easily do worse.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 TomTom (4) - Texas, USA - APR 20, 2009 does not count
slightly hazy yellow with a white head that dissipates completely, very little aroma, the taste is overpowering lemon with a little bit of the wheat

Round two of the shiner crap fest variety pack. Hazy golden pour, light white head. Citrus aroma, a bit of wheat. Flavor is bready, citrus, a bit sour. Heavily filtered and watery. Not something I really want to put myself through again. Too bad I have another one.
