2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 wlajwl (1479) - Iowa, USA - JAN 28, 2011
Wouldn’t really call it a hefe, without any banana flavor, but has enough edge to it to disguish it from other wheat ales.
1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Dixonian (939) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JAN 28, 2011
Hazy orange with very little white head. Unappealing aroma - bits of wheat and slight citrus. Very little flavor, usual wheat bite but no depth. Not a fan of wheat beers as is and this one is on the lower end of the scale.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Maverick34 (1322) - New York, USA - JAN 17, 2011
Bottled. A hazy orange yellow with moderate head. Citrus and grains, somewhat of an off taste. OK.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 hollybeery (66) - Texas, USA - JAN 13, 2011
Bottle. Hazy golden pour with white head. Citrus aromas but pretty weak body.
2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 cmc619 (240) - USA - JAN 6, 2011
Part 5 of Shiner sampler. Best pour yet of the series. Hazy golden-orange with a slightly billowing head. Aroma is back to nasty, harsh metal and off-notes (I’m starting to wonder if I got a skunked pack...). Mouthfeel is soft and somewhat bouncy. Finish with a bit of banana and citrus. I hardly get any wheat and yeast, which is how I like my weissbier.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Finhead (654) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - DEC 28, 2010
A cloudy yellow pour with white head. The aroma is mostly cereal but there is a hint of citrus. The body is light with lively carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with a little tartness in the middle and a clean finish.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bluejacket74 (640) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - DEC 28, 2010
12 ounce bottle, one of the 6 beers included in Shiner’s Family Reunion 6-pack. Served in a weizen glass, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with about a 2 1/2 inch off-white head. Head retention is good, with a decent amount of lacing. It’s a nice looking beer, but unfortunately it goes downhill from there. Not much to the aroma. It smells mostly like sweet and bready malt, with a bit of lemon peel, wheat, and also has a metallic aroma. The taste is just like the aroma, but with no metallic taste. There’s also a slight weird bitter taste noticable. It’s not a bad tasting beer, but it’s not good, either. Mouthfeel/body is light, with decent carbonation. Drinkability is OK. Regardless if it’s really a hefeweizen or an American wheat ale, I didn’t think it was a good example of either style. Maybe it was a bad bottle, but I didn’t care for this brew very much. I’ll have to try this again in the future to make sure.
