COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shiner Hefeweizen (Hef-ay-vite-zen) is a classic unfiltered Bavarian-style wheat brew. Once poured into a glass, the distinctively cloudy Shiner Hefeweizen delivers a fresh, satisfying flavor from start to finish.

Pours a cloudy golden color. Smell is very mild, maybe a touch of lemons. Taste is also mild, a touch of lemon and wheat. Overall nothing offensive but almost like a wheat beer light.

Rated based on notes taken 16 Nov 2012 -- When in Texas, drink as a Texan. A decent Hef. Refreshing.

Old rating. Hazy orange-gold. Normal wet wheat body. Some honey and spices (ginger?), but fairly bland wheat style overall. Just okay.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter. (from June 2012 notes) A - apricot-gold in color, like apple juice, with a short-lived small head. Some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. S - The nose is a rather with a quality more like an adjunct lagr than, say, a typical German Hefeweizen or replica thereof, such as the Baltika 8 that followed this beer. T: Despite the claim to be a Hefeweizen, this is like a cross of that style with an Amer. lager. M - Medium-light body; Somewhat low carbonation. O - Not bad, certainly, but not true to style (no deduction for that in this review) and rather bland and low in flavor.

Pours a hazy golden color with a medium white head that left some lacing around the glass. The aroma is wheat, citrus, and lemon. The taste is similar with some orange and breadiness.

Originally rated December 2010. Thanks to my parents for bringing this one back from the States. Big foamy white head that stays a long, long time, and creates patchy lacing. Hazy golden-beige colour with decent carbonation. Mild aromas and taste of wheat malt with a touch of citrus. An overall refreshing hefeweizen, but lacking the punch that are found in German ones.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2014 Bottle: Banana-straw colored body, highly muddled with a fluffy white head; long lasting. Aroma is more like a kolsch or witbier than a hefeweizen. Very mild, too. Some strange tartness... Green apple skins, grapes, pears, light yeasty pepper notes & faint spice. Taste is full of sweet pale malt, grains, mild wheat, & big notes of tart apple skin, lemon, & grape. Biscuit finish with a lingering metallic note. Thin, wishy washy mouth feel. Mediocre on the grand scale, even worse when considering the supposed style.

"Really didn’t care for this. Not quite a hefe, but not an American wheat either. A bit of a muddled mess. Sweet with a lemony bitterness that does not complement the beer because the traditional banana clove aspects are missing. Don’t get the higher scores...didn’t wanna finish the bottle."

Transfer from BA review on 10-16-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a huge white head. The head fades relatively fast to give a light level of lacing. Smell – The aroma was heaviest of wheat and a lemon citrus. Mixed with these are some aromas of yeast and a biscuit aroma. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter lemon and wheat bread flavor. These flavors create a base for the beer. Some light yeasty flavors come to the tongue in the middle with a biscuit taste. At the very end more lemon and some orange come to the tongue and in the end leave a sweet and sour wheaty flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel -The body of the beer in on the medium side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. Both are very appropriate for the style and make for a easy drinking brew. Overall – A little lacking on complexity, but more sessionable. Overall it is fairly average (maybe a bit above).

It has a cloudy yellow/tan colored body with a tall three finger tall head. The head is off white in color and has a thick and creamy look that makes some nice sticky lace rings at the top of the glass. The aroma has a light yeasty/bready character with some hints of fresh citrus. Its flavor has a modest medium body with a light bready and yeasty character which is both earthy and fruity. There is a mild sweetness from the malt and a nice touch of lemon and orange citrus zest before the hops come in and add a slight bitterness and dryness. Light hop bitterness and dry yeast notes quickly fade from the tongue in the finish.

12 oz bottle at home from backlog notes 07. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a large off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale wheat malts, lemon citrus, hay, perhaps a hint of spice. There really wasn’t much to this. I will not be revisiting this.
