“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

Had this on a hot spring TX day out of the mixed pack and maybe it just caught me at the right time bc I actually enjoyed it. Light malt aroma. Golden in colo with slight white head. Clean tasting lager (light bready sweetness), but not too complex.

Delicious creamy lager. Wish I could get a full 6pk of these and not just 1 in a family pk.

Tasted bottle from Shiner Family Reunion mix-pack into shaker glass. It poured a predictable golden color with weak white foam. Cut-grass, mild malts, almost non-existent hops, some vague adjunct sweetness, and mild pepper phenols from yeast, yet pretty tasteless overall. Not skunky nor offensive, at least. A totally average light-bodied lager, perhaps somewhat pilsener-like, but much less nuanced than classic German examples. Thin, watery, and a bit metallic like most Shiner beers, sadly. This is a brewery I always want to love, despite my unsentimental tastebuds.

Bottle: ok, compared to most pale lagers, this is not bad. However, Shiner does not make a very good beer.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear gold with minimal head. Aroma of some grains and a little grassy hops. Taste is about the same. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, not too bad. This is probably one of my favorite shiner beers.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Bottle. Very drinkable lager, but a lager nontheless. Pours an attractive crystal clear rich gold with a small white head. Aroma is cereal grains. Thinner palate with plenty of carbonation, and the taste is a simple yet somewhat pleasant grain and cereal bit. Doesn’t suck.

Bottle from a variety pack. Pours clear golden, with a quickly disappearing head. Nothing worth noting. Reminds me of a basic lager, not great. Not really even good. Won’t have again.

A - Poured a quarter-finger head. Look of the brew is completely lager. Not much going on. Head is gone after about 10 seconds. S - Some honey, bockiness, wheat and some bread smells are coming through. None are too strong though. T - More honey and bock tastes are coming through. The malt itself is deep but the aftertaste is like a Miller High Life. It’s a very disappointing taste but starts out okay. M - Lots of carbonation while swishing but not much to speak of in general O - I’d take this beer fishing. IT’s not great but I feel it would be better if served in a can.

From notes: Pours clear golden amber with a thin, 1-finger white head. Aroma is earthy, with perhaps a touch of citrus. Body is medium-to-thin. Very mild flavors. Yeasaty, with a slight citrusy note. nothing special.

Gold pour with foamy white head and lace. Aroma reminds me of flat wheat even though I know it can’t be. A flavor I associate with corn followed by a bit of semi sweet malt and a wee tad of bitter. Light bodied and foamy. Not very much.,
