COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thin white head, with some lacing, over a clear gold (SRM 5) body....nose is light cereal, hints of hop spice....taste is cereal, touch of biscuit, finishing with a light bitterness....mouth feel light, carbonation high. This is a light beer with minimal aroma, flavor and complexity and is quite typical of this brewery. The best that can be said is that it did not smell or taste bad. BJCP 4/3/9/4/4

Dark amber. Fast, white head. Aroma: Grains, caramel. Flavor: Grains, malt, caramel, hops and some spices I cannot identify. Unusual to the finish and difficult to rate. Going by the ratings, this is a beer you will either like or hate and I have never seen opinions differ so much. I for one do not like grainy lagers but I like this one so I guess I have to "Drink my words!"

Pours a clear copper with thin white head and decent lacing. Aroma of malt, malt, and more malt. Taste is almost sickeningly sweet with no hoppy balance at all. Not impressed in the least.

Not a bad beer. It poured a deep golden body, lively with bubbling, and a tall white head. The aroma was moderately sweet, grainy, with a quiet earthiness. That pretty well describes the flavor, as well. It finished on a dry earthy note. Repeatable.

Aroma and appearance where nothing to talk about. Taste was typical until the hops kicked in. It’s a nice summer beer that I’m trying in December.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear gold with a fizzy white head. Not much in the way of head retention or lacing. Aroma is of stale grain and cooked vegetables. Maybe a little hint of lemon. Flavor is honestly pretty weak. Some light graininess along with a slight vegetable taste. There is a distinct bitterness throughout but not as much malty flavor as I would have liked. I feel like this beer just misses the mark. It is not terrible by any means but is simply boring.

zestytaco (34) - Niceville, Florida, USA - DEC 16, 2011
Pours a pale yellow color with a white head that fades quickly. Has the strong aroma of cooked corn with a grassy undertone. Clean light malt flavor with a hint of sweetness. Honestly this isn’t a bad beer. This style gets such a bad rap from the macros that decent lagers like this one get lost in the shuffle.

Location/Date:Bottle on December 10th, 2011.

Appearance: Pours a golden clear, light head.
Aroma: Aroma is malty/bready, something smells slightly off.
Taste: Some light bitterness, followed by some weird tasting malt.
Palate:Palate is medium thin, overly fizzy.

Summary: I did not really enjoy this beer.

Bottle; pours a clear slightly pale copper color; Small off white head with little lacing. An earthy flavor with sweet malt background; slight dry finish.

Situation: Feeling good, so I will review a second... Glassware: Standard pilsner... Appearance: choppy, off-whitehead creates islands of thin head atop a copper-bronze body with little effervescence... Aroma: having trouble smelling the hops promised by its label; malt is present... Palate: balanced mouthfeel with an oily end to a medium-bodied intro... Taste: the straight-up lager base that Shiner has perfected seems slightly amiss here, with the subtle fruitiness not distinguinshing tself among its fellow Shiners... Overall: I began eating chips halfway through this tasting--it wasn’t in search of a proper pairing--actually, not an indictment, but the word RESERVE usually is, well, reserved for a beer that stands out... and this does not...
