COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

Poured from bottle. Faint aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Bronze, white head that fades quickly. I taste malt, toffee, butter, hops. Nice flavors, but too thin. Dry, lager-ish feel. Thirst quenching. A good beer that could have been better.

12 ounce bottle from the family pack. Pours a clear gold/copper with a small white head. Aroma of malt and citrus. Taste is grain, malt sweetness with a decent hop presence. Easy to drink. Nice lager.

Bottle from family reunion pack. Pours a light straw yellow color with a thin, bubbly white head. Some sweetness on the nose. Not much in flavor, some malty sweetness up front but the carbonation washes everything away and it finishes with a cheap, bitter taste. Watery texture and over carbonated. Drinkable and refreshing...but just barely.

Split a 12oz bottle, obtained from the Family Reunion variety pack. Clear gold/yellow color, very minimal head. Light, falling lacing. Light hops taste. Crisp carbonation, not overdone... Mildly bitter finish, but hardly any at all. Drinkable, somewhat refreshing. Not bad, but nothing special.

Clear golden pour with fair white head. Faintly sweet vanilla corny nose. Flavor is semi sweet but with a small bitterness on the tail. like being hop-kissed. Nothing really special here at all. bleh...

One of the best after the Bock in the family six pack. I don’t understand why they never gave it its own six pack and if they did why i couldn’t find it anywhere in Houston area.

12 oz bottle from D&Q. Somewhat unusual lager with a few hop and spicy notes. Not too sweet.

Bottled sample from my Shiner family pack (great name). Was much better than I expected it to be

Underwhelming. I’d rather have a Boston Lager than this. The bitterness, while not that high, is a bit much for the light malt backbone of the lager.

Bottle from Total Wine & More in Cherry Hill, NJ. Clear light amber under a short light tan head. No lacing. Not much aroma aside from a little straw. Not much going on in the flavors either. A few notes of lemon and very weak toffee now and again with a restrained malt presence. Thin texture and no noticeable finish. This was included in a sampler pack. Not worth seeking out on it’s own.
