COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

12fl oz bottle poured into a scotch glass (I’m at a hotel and it’s all I could find). Sparkling gold with very little white head. Aroma is light grassy hops that dissipates with the head. Flavor is grassy hops with some metal. Thin body. Medium-length lightly bitter finish.

I recall this being one of the original Shiner products, and it was Discontinued for years. I still have one of the original, unopened beers from the late 90’s.

Dark bronze amber colored body with a dense slightly yellow tinted head. The nose has some rich mashed potatoes with notes of raw grains. There is also some fresh pressed apple cider. The taste has some raw potatoes and spice of celery, especially in the finish. There is also an ever present red Delicious apple note. A soft mouthfeel helps this one along. A decent effort, but certainly nothing special.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2012 Bottle. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma and flavor are generically malty with just a touch of floral hops -- it’s certainly not "jacked" on anything. A somewhat upscale macro lager.

This actually is a little different than most American lagers. It is "hop-jacked" as per the commercial description, which in terms of American lagers means it’s about as hoppy as a proper Pils. It’s a slightly orange-ish yellow w/ a barely-there foam head. Nose is earthy, herbal hops, cereal grain and a hint of fruitiness. Quite dry w/ an earthy bitterness, it drinks quite easily due to its light body and vigorous carbonation. I think this would be rated a bit higher if it were an important or was made by a brewer w/ a better rep around here than Shiner. It is certainly a better take on an American pilsener than, say, Three Floyd’s Jinx Proof.

Pours a slight darker golden color then the rest, white head. Grainy malt, light citrus, hops, and a touch of sweetness and corn. For a reserve beer that is supposed to be "full-flavored, hop-jacked" this is extremely boring.

Pours golden with a small with a small white head and plenty of pretty carbonation bubbles. The aroma has a toasty breadiness with some light herbal hops, but really it’s pretty faint. Flavor is some nice honey maltiness and a good noble hop zing. There is a light toasty character to this beer as well and now and again there is an annoying but fleeting note of apple. This is very plain and there are certainly no frills attached to this beer but that said it’s very tasty as a simple beer.

12oz bottle. Pours a nice medium amber color with a white fizzy head. Smell is of nice balanced malt. No corn detected. Very malty taste with a clean finish. I quite enjoy it. Refreshing

The beer pours a yellow orange color with a white head. The aroma is sweet adjuncts with some earthy hops. The flavor is a mix of corn, wheat, grassy hops and grapes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not terrible by any means, but not too good either.
