“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

Beer pours light copper color with a quickly dissipating head. Grainy aroma with a hint of floral hops. Taste is sweet. Needs more bitterness for balance. Blah.

Bottle in San Antonio. Reserve? What does the normal kosmos taste like? Metallic and sour notes throughout that ruined it for me. There was some redeeming malt in there but it was buried deep.

Pours copper tinted amber with a 2 finger chunky beige head that has good retention. Aroma is caramel, grass, citrus, metal, straw, and a little mineral. Flavor is citrus, grass, butterscotch, cardboard, metal, caramel and a little forest like earthiness. Finish is crisp mineral notes, some citrus and herbal hops and metal. Palate is light-medium bodied with a dry feel throughout and a sharp, but not too sharp carbonation. Not bad stuff really, theres alot wrong with it but somehow it pulls together to be pretty passable overall.

( 12oz bottle thanks to angrypirate) He must have been angry to have provided this one. What did I do to deserve this?! Pours very clear amber, decent bubbly head with ok lacing. Nose of slight sour notes, meaty. The taste has a lager-like bite, grain, tart/old apples. Nice carbonation but a bad aftertaste. Speaking of which, what exactly was Kosmos RESERVING this beer for?? Probably some in-laws that he hated. Here guys, drink this!

Bottle from Shiner family variety 6-pack. Pours a crystal clear golden orange color with a dense, foamy white head. Bread malt and hoppy aroma. The flavor is fairly bland and malty with some subtle hops. Not too much going on here overall.

Clear gold, small white head. Lots of corn and light grainy notes in the nose. Flavor is fairly clean and crisp with the flavor of watery grits and caramel malt. Meh.

Bottle. Golden with rapidly dissipating white head. It’s a pale lager... But that being said, its really good for the style. Actually has an ok body and doesn’t taste like adjuncts. Much, much better than a typical macro.

Pours a honey amber with a hefty white head. Carbonation continues to flow upwards the entire time, keeping the head up top. Not much in the way of aroma. Surprising given the statement about hops being used in this one. Smells a little like watered down corn. Again, a little like watered down corn. I would like to say there is some malty tastes contributing to the color, but I can’t. Weird aftertaste. Almost like a powdery feeling. A bit of sourness lingers on the sides of the mouth and tongue. Eh, you could pound them down. But why would you? It’s not very good and the overcarbonation gets annoying to look at.

(bottle) A bubbling clear orange body with a big off-white head. Pale caramel malt and moderate hop aroma, grain, fruit notes (apple, orange) and light grass. Flavor, like the body, is thin. Up front there is some caramel malt as well as hops and some spice, but it quickly fades to a mostly tasteless(watery), dry finish.
