“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2011 Crystal clear yellow, decent head. Aroma of a bitter pilsner. Little more to it than a domestic but finishes dry and bitter. Not life-changing. 2.6
RE-RATE 3/3/11 Bottle. So I went a little crazy when pouring this beer, and held the bottle literally a foot above the glass, and the head went everywhere. (Insert that’s what she said joke here) I can at least say that this beer has a decent head response! It pours a clear, bright orange color with a tall foamy white head.

The aroma is a little watery and grainy, but what is there is fairly faint. There are some corn elements also but it’s not too offensive. The label said that this beer was “hop-jacked”. Well I honestly couldn’t detect any hops until after the beer warmed up AND I read the label. So there’s no telling whether I actually smelled hops or if it was implanted in my brain while I slept on a plane.

The flavor is very bready with lots of bitter grains. It pushes to an increasingly bitter finish with some efforts of corn in the mix. It also has a bit of a watery mouthfeel. As it warms up there are more and more bitter, metallic notes. I guess the bitterness comes from the hops? Not impressed. If there are hops in this they are hiding behind a kernel of corn. Kosmos would be rolling over in his massive tomb filled with Bavarian hops after trying this. At least I have an episode of Conan on my DVR to drink to!

Continuing on in the Shiner turd tour. Amber pour with white head, that’s quickly gone. A little bit of bitter caramel malt in the aroma. Flavor is a bit sour, with vegetal notes. A bit metallic. feel sorry for the guy they named this after.

12oz bottle. Golden amber with a very small amount of fizzy white head. The use of the phrase "hop-jacked" in the brewer’s description makes me wonder if anyone at Shiner has ever really had a hoppy beer. Half asses as most of their brews - lots of corn. Thin and watery.

Pour is a darker gold with a large white head. Aroma is kinda vegetal and sweet grain. Flavor is weak and watery. No real malts and no hops what so ever. Kinda just sweet and thin. I guess they were going for a Sam Adams lager clone but missed the mark on the important things like aroma and flavor.

This beer is OK. I wouldn’t say it’s "hop-jacked". Light and crisp. Flavors of grass and straw. A little bit of caramel in the malt backbone.

Not that great of a beer. Has a floral astringent finish. No aroma no head. Odd for a premium lager, can’t say I’m impressed. better options by this brewer.

From a bottle. Pours clear gold with a fizzy off white head. Tastes like dry, grassy malt, musky corn. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like grass, musk, light grains.

Is there a font that evokes a monotone drawl which would help describe my total lack of enthusiasm for the rebirth of a beer which states that it honors the founder when it actually pisses on him?
