2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Frank (1966) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 3, 2010
There was a time on this site when the style that we call pale lager now was split into two distinct halves. One was American standard and the other was American light. We have adopted the new standard to be more international, which is understandable, and in the process the lighter beers got lumped in w/ the stronger ones and thus my favorite style has been polluted by light beer water. This one is not so bad. It pours the standard yellow w/ a foamy head that lasts decently well but leaves no lace. It actually has a fuller flavor than a lot of non-light American lagers. There is little in the nose but it’s actually kind of sweet and malty. It your style-standard mix of cereal grains and very light noble-ish hop presence. The palate is a downside as this is overcarbonated to the point where it has a negative affect on drinkability but at least it is not boring and flat which kill this kind of beer. Flavorwise, this is in border territory between the two former style pale lager was split into and is as good an argument as any as to why they should be combined.

12oz bottle. Pours a nice amber color with very fizzy carbonation and a head that dissipates instantly. Smells of corn, malts, and slightly of hay-ish hops. Not much taste to it, that is for sure. Almost like someone took a Shiner Bock and poured water into it.

Not as "light" as you might expect from a "light" beer. Definitely a Shiner product. Beautiful color, and very enjoyable.

Light yellow pour. Grain, malt, slight sweetness and hops. Easy drinking, much like water.

Okay, pleasant sweet grass smell. Looks nice. Tastes a little too sweet/malty with am earthy aftertaste. Not a repeater.

Bottle from a family reunion 6’er poured into a pint glass.
Poured a clear light orange with a thin white head that dissapated quickly. For a light pale lager, it smells pretty good, roasted malt mostly, with a hint of yeast and grass. The taste is thin and weak. Pretty malty. Not much complexity.
i just looked up the stats and this light as 120 calories and 9g of carbs. About the same as a Sam Light. To me, that product is better. But really, to me, drink a real beer and don’t worry about it, or drink an actual light if your watching your weight. This beer really serves no purpose.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 hopscotch (7288) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 5, 2010
Bottle… Clear, light amber lager with a small, wispy, white head. The bouquet is of peppery, spicy hops, lemon zest and pale grains. Light-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Well-balanced - not a lot of flavor, but not overly sweet, even when fairly warm. There’s actually a decent little hop bite here. Short, crisp, refreshing finish.

12 oz. bottle - From a family reunion pack. I drank this after the blonde and was much lighter/less taste. light color beer with pretty good head when poured, low lacing there after. Low aroma and almost tasteless with the exception of an aftertaste on the palate. Overall like drinking low flavored water.
