Here in Shiner, TX (pop. 2,070), we’re suckers for tradition. Which is why this classic Oktoberfest brew is made with the highest quality two-row barley, Munich and caramel malts, along with German grown Hallertau Tradition and Hersbrucker hops. It’s our way of honoring our ancestors and the beer they loved to celebrate with. So raise your stein to tradition and enjoy this utterly classic brew.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. This beer has a very clear orange color with a large white head. The aroma is mostly malt with some spice added. The taste is very malty with some hop at the end. A real good Oktoberfest offering from Shiner.

12 ounce bottle, kind of strong on the caramel in the initial taste. A bit sweet for my liking but solid beer.

Bottle - Has the sweet marzen taste to it. Slight “fall” taste to it with hints of yeast and bread. Not a fan of this style so finding a marzen I like has always been difficult.

DATE TASTED: September 18, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Weihenstephaner weizen... OCCASION: Another good week comes to an end... APPEARANCE: large, thick, fizzy, off-hat of a head dissipates to a ring of stray bubbles; the body is a copper orange with the minutest bubbles... AROMA: reasonable caramel is first and foremost in the profile; the grapey, slightly hoppy suggestions; honey and alcohol mush up the anticipation... PALATE: thin, bubbly, slightly warming at its end...approaching the heartiness of its genre, and appropriately sessionable... TASTE: caramel and astringency topple the taste buds, with equal share... the hops are mild.... not a fan of the overall effect...OVERALL: Expecting this to approximate an import is a pipe dream; what it does do is provide a bit more flavor with an equally drinkable body...

Crisp, simple, but overall this is pretty bland. Everything about this one is slight and mild.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours an orange amber color with a huge and billowy white head. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is massive of a caramel smell mixed with lots of breadiness and a good showing of brown sugar. The very malty and sweet smell of the brew is matched by a little bit of an herbal and grassy smell, creating a very nice and invitingly sweet aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins much less sweet then would have been anticipated from the nose. The flavor begins with a slightly grainy and bready taste mixed with some flavors of brown sugar and molasses. As the taste moves forward a little bit of apple comes to the tongue only to fade again more toward the end. All the while the other sugary tastes dwindle, with some light grassy and herbal tastes taking their place. There is a little resurgence of the sweet at the end of the profile, with a caramel and some more molasses coming to the tongue, leaving one with a decently malty and sweet, but more dank hopped taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the brew is on the thinner side for a 5.8 % abv brew with a carbonation level that is on the lower side as well. The feel was OK overall, as it did a nice job for the sweet, but with that said, a little higher carbonation may have made it a little more easy drinking and refreshing in light of its lighter hop profile. Overall- Not a bad oktoberfest overall, but nothing out of the world either. For its more slim price tag however this brew is a rather good fall party/gathering style brew, as it packs a lot of nice flavor into a light price tag.

Aroma of slight malt, spice, cardboard. Light gold in color with bright head. Simple but nice traditional October fest taste.

12oz bottle pours a orange/golden with a large khaki head. Big lager yeast aroma with light caramel malt underneath. Big yeast flavor, caramel malt, taste like non sweet maple syrup, light bitterness on the finish. Pretty decent, highly drinkable, one of the better Marzen’s I’ve tried. Yeast and hop bitterness stand out over malts. Nice!

12 ounce can. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. A big sweet malty sweet nose. The flavor is sweet caramel, toast, fresh fruity noble hops. Smooth. Very sweet. OK.
