Here in Shiner, TX (pop. 2,070), we’re suckers for tradition. Which is why this classic Oktoberfest brew is made with the highest quality two-row barley, Munich and caramel malts, along with German grown Hallertau Tradition and Hersbrucker hops. It’s our way of honoring our ancestors and the beer they loved to celebrate with. So raise your stein to tradition and enjoy this utterly classic brew.

Pour from 12oz bottle into pub glass. Pour a rich copper color. Small head with minimal lacing and mild retention. Smells of rich barley and mild scent of sour malts. Hops aroma comes in at the end though incredibly faint. Tastes of sweet caramel malts, bready yeast, and mild hops. Bread stays on the palate and lingers. Overall a drinkable marzen style brew though not my favorite. Still its redemption is in the drink ability and mass appeal that it has.

Bottle from Signal Variety, Plaistow NH. Aroma is slightly grassy and malty. Transient, insignificant head with clear reddish brown color. Taste is lightly sweet maltiness but is overridden by carbonation that stings the tongue. Not a terribly strong taste but much more enjoyable after you let the beer sit in the class for a while and lose some fizz. Medium body otherwise with pleasant finish (once the carbonation is allowed to die down).

Lost rating from last fall, though I was surprised to see then that I hadn’t rated this earlier. Pours orange-amber with a thin beige head. Caramel and a bit of spice.

Bottled. Pours clear golden color, small head. Aroma is caramel, malts, little bit of a ricey adjunct Aroma going on. Flavor is sweet caramel, malty, light, crisp. Drinks like you’d expect, definite lager feel to it. Unremarkable.

Golden copper orange, transparent, few bubbles, no head. Unimpressive skunky aroma containing malt and perhaps some caramel. Wow. The taste is far superior. Smooth, medium mouthfeel, creamy. Initial slight biterness, followed by a smooth combination of malt, caramel, nutmeg spices, and finishes with a refreshing amount of hop. Fantastic, easy drinking marzen.

Bottle. A: Caramel color with red highlights. Very thin head - hard to tell the color. N: Biscuit, red licorice, grist and hay. Some hops. A bit of sulfur. I swear - it’s like a fast food bun. T: Sweet and....sweet. more of the weird burn. M: Light body, prickly carb. O: Yeah. 3 misses in a row. I am disappoint. Breakside and Ayinger are so far superior.

Rated from notes taken 2 Sep 2011 -- Drank at an Oktoberfest sample event. This is just slightly better than middle of the road, compared to the other brews.

Amber in color, lightly carbonated, low hops, Carmel flavors and some roasted barley notes, overall it is ok

Can. Typical malty aroma and flavor for Marzen. Not bad, but not complex or exceptional.

Medium amber color light head. Aromas medium malty(carmel, toffee) and light grassy undertones. Flavors the same as aromas. Light to medium sweet.

12 oz bottle. (Bavarian Bottle Shop) Helen, GA.
Clear deep golden colour with a tiny white head. Bready malt, bouillon and some mild saltiness in the aroma. Weird. The flavour is dry hops, sweetish malt, cookies and dryness. Malty. Dry.
