COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This small batch brew is the third in our Limited Edition Brewer’s Pride Craft Brew Series. A combination of Citra and US Golding hops gives this refreshing lager its citrus flavor and floral aroma. The brew’s signature tartness comes from the fruit of the prickly pear, a cactus native to our brewery’s landscape that’s hearty, rugged and unmistakably unique - qualities we surely appreciate. Prosit!

Old rating. Orangish gold. Typically crisp pale lager with just a hint of tart sweetness from the prickly pear. I have PP in my yard and have added them to a friends homebrew. Interesting addition...I didn't hurt here.

Bottle. Pours a rather odd color -- amber with just a hint of pink. Has a high, mixed-grain, off-white head. Nose is overwhelmingly fruity-floral and candied. Tastes like an mediocre mass-produced lager with some fruity, berry-like saccharine sweetness to it; despite the description, there’s no tartness to it at all. The only way this would have noticeable acid is if Ken Kesey poured it for me. Finish is hollow-sweet and forgettable. It’s not bad, really, there’s just not much to it.

Bottle. Brassy gold, clear, with a finger-thick white head. Aroma and flavour of cough syrup. Appalling.

Kind of like beer roulette, just reached blindly into a sampler pack and came out with about the last style I would expect - prickly pear. Just a slightly citrusy tartness in a lager, not too sweet or anything. Nice change of pace but wouldn’t really want a whole 6 pack of it.

From the 12 fl oz bottle. It pours pale yellow to light amber with a big long lasting white head. One cannot deny that there is pear on the nose. It must considering the name of the beer. But this comes across as so fruity like standing in a produce aisle of a supermarket. The body is light to medium. The taste does have plenty of fruit characteristics but at the same time it seems rather weak and low profile. I did not dislike it but it is not something I would drink regularly.

Nice premise. Very attractive pour with a mild fruit aroma, no hops. Taste is smooth but artificial "fruit" flavors are medicinal and somewhat unpleasant. Would have been much nicer to use real juice only. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer surprised me. I bought it because I enjoy cactus fruit; blending that flavor with beer seemed like an interesting project. Shiner, as always, has brewed a thin beer but this one works. It reminded me of ShockTop Raspberry Wheat but less cloyingly sweet, better, and more traditionally beer. It is sweet and fruity but balanced. An enjoyable sipper.

Bottle. Pours shiny orange with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. It smells like a medicine bottle with mild carbonation. Lager start with a weird sweet/tart finish. This is the kind of beer you drink once. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

sample from bottle at 2014 houston big brew fest. Pale golden with small head. Light body with medium sweetness. Decent, but not much more than that.
