3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark amber pour with a foamy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of hops, lots of alcohol, and I guess what’s prickly pear flowers. Sour flavor - tart with only a little sweetness and no bitter. Floral, prickly pear, berry flavors. The most interesting beer I’ve tried from Shiner. Not bad at all.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Points for brewing wit hthis odd ingredient, although aroma is a bit off-putting. Taste is sweet, but flat and dry. Saving grace is this beer’s beautiful look, light, lcear amber with nice fluffy head. Not sure about the taste of the prickly pear however....

Bottle; copper, dark gold color with a frothy whitish head. Aroma of citrus, prickly pear?, and wheat. Pretty vibrant aroma. Flavor was a bit strange; pear, a touch watery and wheaty. Aroma was better, but not much.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours with a long lasting off white head.. the brew itself is fizzy orange.
Nose shows bright/up-front watermelon and pink bubblegum... I guess this is the prickly pear!!
Flavor shows the same decent fruitiness but a bigger pale malt/wheaty element helps push but mutes the fruits.
Light fizzy carbonation on a light bodied beer....
Okay... I would drink this again.. I guess.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
A very light, clear amber color. Holds a small white head. Aroma has a very nice prickly pear character with a very small hint of sweet. Flavor is light, refreshing, fruity cactus with a very mild malt backbone. The bite is too strong but the full taste and light body help make up for that.

I found one of these in a specialty brew place and actually enjoyed the slight tartness that comes from the Prickly pear added. It was amazingly refreshing on a hot Texas day. Sadly, the distribution of many of Shiner’s craft series seems to be very limited.
