3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark amber pour with a foamy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of hops, lots of alcohol, and I guess what’s prickly pear flowers. Sour flavor - tart with only a little sweetness and no bitter. Floral, prickly pear, berry flavors. The most interesting beer I’ve tried from Shiner. Not bad at all.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUN 23, 2016 Dammit Shiner, stop this. I know what you guys are doing with trying to market to the macro crowd with an interesting beer but it just does not work. Gold color, apple sort of taste, not appalling but tastes artificial and contrived. Like the equivalent of a Big Mac.... a terrible hamburger but a tasty enough food item to eat.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours another fizzy head, but it does stick around longer than the soda pop heads of the other two beers. The smell shows some fruit sweetness. The smell has a fruity note, almost like a perfume, in fact. The taste brings in that perfumey fruit with a very slight tartness on the back of the throat. This may go well as a dessert beer; although most such beers are pretty strong, this 4.9% abv brew would suit a lighter palate.

Quite dark Amber, clear. Light white head. Smelled very sweet, immediately on opening the can from several feet. Strong notes of pear. Quite sweet, some very light bitter grassy notes. Kind of artificial smelling. Clean mouthfeel, light body. Good amount of carbonation. Refreshing.

It’s not really my style, but it is super hot outside, I just took the dog on a bike ride, and I’m digging this. Higher score than expected.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. I was pretty hyped to try this one after having Oso’s rather excellent Prickly Pear Infection Groove. While this has some unique kiwi-agave tones, this pales is comparison. The base beer is sort of sweet, not really complementing the fruit so well. OK for what it is.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle from Windsor Hy-Vee, in a Sam Smith pint glass. Aromas of ripe pear, banana and cantaloupe with an unexpected Chardonnay-like woody butteryness, some vanilla and a characteristic tangyness that definitely has me thinking prickly pears. Pours surprisingly dark, sort of a golden amber to red with a finger of foamy white head and wild effervescence clinging all over the glass and fizzing up in a torrent. Both dissipate tremendously over the course of 3-5 minutes. Rich malty caramel butteryness up front followed by ripe, sweet prickly pear-cantaloupe sweetness, with fruit and buttery vanilla lingering on the finish. An odd bird, almost like wine-meets-ale-meets-fruit beverage. Medium bodied, slick, sticky and mouthcoating. Easy enough to drink, but not quite the light refreshing summer beverage the packaging suggests. Not bad, definitely a one of a kind brew with many unexpected qualities. Have to ruminate on this one for a few more bottles. Prosit!
