COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This small batch brew is the third in our Limited Edition Brewer’s Pride Craft Brew Series. A combination of Citra and US Golding hops gives this refreshing lager its citrus flavor and floral aroma. The brew’s signature tartness comes from the fruit of the prickly pear, a cactus native to our brewery’s landscape that’s hearty, rugged and unmistakably unique - qualities we surely appreciate. Prosit!

Lightly sweet prickly pear taste on the front. Gives way quickly to a very mild malt. Inoffensive and easy drinking.

Bottle. A- Fruity, gummies, A- Amber color, clear liquid, white head. T- Fruity, wheat, gummies, unbalanced, artificial. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, artificial fruity finish. O- Shiner usually seems to do fairly well at unique seasonal brews. This one was not one of them. The prickly pear flavor was there but it was pretty artificial tasting and unbalanced.

Cactus fruit (berry and apple) aroma. Golden yellow with huge off-white head. Mildly sweet cactus fruit and malt flavor. Very light body. Nothing unpleasant but extremely light.

Bottle poured a clear golden amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of bread, prickly pear and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, prickly pear and light citrus with a crisp dry lingering fruity finish.

Shiner Prickly Pear has a medium, off-white head, a clear, slightly-bubbly appearance, and a touch of lace left on the glass. The aroma is of raspberry and background malt. Taste is of lager beer, mild hop bitterness, and sweet breadiness. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Shiner Prickly Pear finishes crisp and refreshing. RJT

bottled - interesting/different. Sweet aroma and flavor. Light amber color. The flavor starts out sweet but ends slightly bitter. Interesting - not sure if I like it or not?

12 oz. pours clear amber with a ring of foam. Nose seems to be a mix of artificial-flavored strawberry hard candy and mildly tart lime, which I assume is the prickly pear. Unfortunately the taste is the same candy-like alcopop, with just a touch of wooden-minty hop on the finish. Not a good mix for my tastebuds. The light-medium body has too much sizzle, so combined with the candy flavor it almost seems like I put a Zotz candy in my mouth instead of a grown-up beverage. I presume that’s what the intent was anyway.

Pours a copperish brown, no head and lacing. Strong citrus aromas. Crisp mouthfeel. Bitter fruity flavors. Tangy aftertaste, not entirely pleasant. Not a fan.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s in a mixer sixer pack. Clear, rust orange appearance with a cream colored head. The aroma is full of candy, smarties, pears, and peaches. High carbonation. Kind of sweet. Sort of tastes like peach and honey juice. Refreshing but one-sided. Not to chug and honestly, not overly sweet.

Pour is a clear tan with a small white head. Aroma is super sweet with a big berry, maybe the prickly pear? Flavor is more of the berry sweetness with not much in the way of hops or malts. I don’t know what a prickly pear taste like but this beer has a berry flavor and not much else.
