I really enjoyed this brew. That being said, I also really like fruit/wheat beers as well. Very nice complex character of grapefruit and ginger with this one.Not overly sweet either. So good on a hot summer day. This was my go to beer for summer 2011. Also, very reasonably priced at around 5 to 6 dollars for a sixer where Iím from. Great brew, Iíll definitely buy it again next summer.

Kind of surprised by the negative reviews on this one. Yes its a summer beer and yes its a fruit beer catering to the masses. But this a good one. A little thin in body to my liking with a high drinkability, this one is a thirst quencher. Citrus, slightly toasted malt, and ginger in the nose. Well balanced and an all around good beer.

0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Oh yuck!! I should have stopped when I read that this brew was blended with grapefruit and ginger!!! Thereís just something about fruit-infused beers that are just not up to my liking! But if youíre into these sorts of hybrids then by all means read on! It pours up a rich amber body with very little head and thatís gone about as soon as you stop pouring the bottle out! The smell of ginger and grapefruit were just too much for me and frankly it is very overpowering. The taste has a bite to it that almost had me spitting it out (but I held back because I didnít want to have to clean up the mess!). All I tasted was bad ginger and bad grapefruit and itís very very bitter. Shiner totes that this is the ďperfect summer beerĒ. Well they (and others) can have it that way as I have far better summer beer preferences! If youíre looking for the strange and unusual in the craft brew world, this oneís for you (but not me)!

(bottle 7/4/11). Clear deep gold/copper color. Spare off white head. Monderate ginger aroma with light citrus. Flavor of the same, with light malt. Avg duration. Dry finish. Thin/slick texture. Soft carbonation. Spare lacing.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear, pale orange with no head. Aroma of bread, ginger, grapefruit and Sprite. Taste is a bit watery, but itís malty with a hint of ginger and some grapefruit tartness. Thin body, no finish to speak of. A decent and drinkable brew, but as is the trend with Shiner beers, itís thin and weak. Still, itís nice to see some originality.

I blame me - I donít like fruit; I hate grapefuit even more - so why did I even attempt this. cut to chase - you could taste the grapefruit tartness but moreso the ginger - ginger belongs in a beer even less than grapefruit

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Light orange color with some white head. Lots of ginger in the nose with some grain and fruitiness. Grapefruit in the flavor with more ginger. Pretty refreshing but still decent at best.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a brass color with lots of carbonation but no head. The aroma is fresh citrus, mostly grapefruit and lime, a hint of ginger (which seems to get stronger as it warms), and a touch of sweet malt. The flavor is really thin and unsatisfying. Ginger, citrus, and a dusty cheap maltiness. The finish is pretty weak. This might make a good cooking beer.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, fully diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is notes of ginger and grapefruit juice. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, husky/vegetal. Light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. You can imagine my excitement when I saw that my favorite brewery, Shiner, had produced a delightful and refreshing grapefruit-and-ginger soda for the...wait, what? This is beer? Haha, no, really...what? Quit playiní. Ah, wait, there must be a little packet in the bottom of the bottle with some ground barley and hops to mix into the...what? No? *sniff* *sip* This is really beer?! Really?! Haha, no way, man, stop f*cking with me! Ok, in summary, this is a refreshing and tart fruit soda that would taste nice after mowing the dog.

Iíll admit, I was excited when I heard about this beer. I love ginger. Upon opening my bottle, I was even further excited as ginger was the dominating aroma. Then I tasted it. Somehow, it managed to be both bitter and bland. Itís like they took grapefruit juice, removed all the sugar, then mixed it with club soda. I admire Shiner for trying something new, but they missed the mark with this one.
