3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
undated 12 oz bottle served in a pint glass (from Jan. 2012 notes).
Hmmm, beer made with grapefruit ... from a large brewery. I have to admit it occurred to me that Shiner may be replacing some hops with the fruit juice.
Pours way more orange than red; medium amber tone with a slight haze, at least after adding a bit of sediment found at the bottom of the bottle. Visible coarse carbonation. The smallish head dies quickly.
Aroma & Flavor: Red grapefruit may be the featured ingredient, at least in the "Ruby Redbird" name, but ginger take the front seat in both aroma and flavor. Grapefruit, hops and vague spices are also evident. The mild tartness and bitterness are less strong than might be expected.
M: crisp but rather astringent; light/medium body; somewhat aggressive carbonation; dry finish.
O: a flavorful, lower ABV beer that may appeal to those who like ginger and don’t mind a rather astringent brew. Memorable.

Pours an amber color with a medium white head. The aroma is grapefruit, some citrus, breadiness. The taste is similar to the aroma, not a fan of this beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Ginger spice aroma. Brown with a reddish tinge body. Dry tart grapefruit feel on the tongue after which it seems to disappear from your palate. Hard to make up my mind if I like this one. Has a refreshing quality but a slightly odd combo of ginger and grapefruit playing with your senses.

12 oz bottle from Tipsy’s. Dark orange and clear appearance. Aroma is strong ginger, herbal and spicy. Similar flavor, with fruity notes, grapefruit and light citrus zest. Too much ginger for me.

355ml twist off bottle. Struggles to form a head whichquickly dissipates. Sadly not ruby red in color. Smells like generic shit brand ginger ale. Flavor is mild, some mineral water, grain, very little grapefruit, and only a hint of ginger. Pretty weak brew.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a Samuel Adams tasting glass. The label lists the abv at 4.01% and it also gives a nice description of the beer.
Appearance: The body is very clear and light to medium amber in color. It head is off white and quick fading despite a very active carbonation flowing up though the beer. After the first sip the head has completely disappeared and subsequently there is no lacing to speak of.
Smell: The aroma is light overall. I get some dry spicy gingerbread notes standing out over light grainy maltiness.
Taste / Palate: The flavor starts with a light grainy base malt with notes of ginger and mild white peppercorn. Very mild notes of tart grapefruit like citrus move in and lead into the dry snappy finnish. Hop favor seems very subdued but very complimentary to the Ruby Red grapefruit juice and it definitely adds to the dryness. The palate feels light and quite lively.
