12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 9/11/2012. Pours a fairly crystal clear red copper color with a small light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of apple, pear, caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, molasses, light rye, and herbal earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, bread, light fruits, earth, herbal, light chocolate, light rye spiciness; and a light metallic note. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, bread, toffee, light fruits, earth, herbal, and light rye on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of flavors; not as much rye flavor as I was expecting; zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice rye amber lager. A nice amount of robust flavor for being under 5%; and very smooth to drink as expected. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Beerenberger (789) - Fischer, Texas, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Aroma of sweet malt - maybe some hints of roastiness. Pours a clear dark brown with ruby highlights with a mostly diminishing white head and no lacing. The taste is subtlety sweet. Rye grain with roasty notes. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall, while the beer was enjoyable, I expected a stronger rye taste.

chinchill (580) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 16, 2012
Poured a very dark brown color; clear with nice orange-ruby highlights. The off-white head is not very durable and only a few spots of lace are left on the glass. A thin ring endures quite a bit longer. Looks promising, but the aroma is very faint, with medium-dark roasted malts and some spice from the hops and/or rye just barely detectable. Taste: sweet and bitter are balanced; more flavor than the aroma suggests, but still by no means a strongly flavored beer. Nice level of spiciness from the hops and rye. The quality of flavor is very good, so the limited strength and brief aftertaste are disappointing. Medium-light bodied; crisp feel from moderate+ carbonation and rye; nicely dry from mid-taste to the finish. Overall: a pleasant surprise; probably the best I’ve had from this brewer, although that’s somewhat faint praise.

Bottle, in good company. Nose is lagery, but has a sharp peppery undertone. Color is dark brown-gold with a fair head. Flavor is really good; the rye edge fits in well with the underlying Vienna nature, and the finish is long but clean. Good beer.

Bottle. Brown color with medium head. Aroma is slightly nut, slightly hay. Taste is of a malty, grainy, slightly nutty flavor.

From Notes, 3/10/12: Poured a 12oz bottle from a Shiner Family Reunion 6er. Part of the Brewer’s Pride Series. A: Dark reddish brown with fluffy white head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing. S: Rye grain up front, Czech Saaz hops in the background. Slight sweetness. T: The spiciness and slight (very slight) sourness come through from the rye. Sweet caramel malt and hops balance out the rest. M: A bit thin-bodied, but great for a crisp, clean easy-to-drink lager. O: Solid rye lager from Shiner. Really wish they made 6ers of their Brewer’s Pride Series. These aren’t "big" beers, but definitely more flavorful than their regular lineup. Worth a try, especially since the classic Shiner "metallic" taste is absent.

12 ounce bottle. Dark reddish brown color. Small bubbly tan head. Smoky metallic burnt match aroma. Interesting subtle, sweet roasted malt flavor hints at rye bread. Medium body with a tangy hop finish. Decent brew.

Bottled. Poured clear, deep ruby with a short cap of off-white head.. great color to it. The aroma picked up sweet honey, bread, and chocolatey malts with accents of dark fruit and a touch of rye. The flavor found toasty chocolate, caramel, and pumpernickel bread at the core, with a touch of malty sourness and dry, earthy notes around.. finished with some chewy chocolate and cocoa notes. Medium-bodied at most on the palate.. a touch smoky.. smooth, rolling carbonation.. dried out on the finish. This was not bad, but I wish there was more rye to it.
