2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown pour with a thin tan/white head. Aroma is subdued, with caramel, chocolate and sweet malt. Body is a bit thin but there is good carbonation. Flavor is toasted malts and very light chocolate. Didn’t catch any of the spice I associate with ’rye’ malt usage. Just ok, I think it would be better with just a bit more ’oomph’ in the body department and more spice.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark amber brew with thin head that does hold for a while. Aroma is caramel with a slight metalic note. Tastes is caramel being most dominate with a little bit of pepperish rye. Thin brew but to be expected from a lager. Not bad.

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle from the Shiner Family Reunion variety sixer bought at WinCo in CDA, ID. Aroma is biscuit, toasty, bready, rye--all pretty faint. Pours clear copper with a one finger beige head with good retention. Taste is sweet and a bit savory, toasty, biscuit, spicy hops presenting themselves after the swallow. Thin-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel, just like the other three I’ve had from the six pack. This is actually pretty decent; much better than the Premium, Kosmos Reserve and the flagship Bock.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
From 2013-2014 sampler pack. Pours medium brown and clear. Aroma is fairly rich and grainy. Flavor has a good malt kick with a crisp finish. Appropriately hopped, but a little watery. Good example of the style, but not that tasty.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12/24/13. 12oz bottle from the Milan Hy Vee. Ryes & Shine? Get it?! Good one, Shiner. Deep amber pour with a small khaki head. Plain malty aroma, a hint of metal, basically nothing. Sweet flavor, caramel, metallic, very bland. Meh.
