2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 DwightSchrute (51) - Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 26, 2010Has a smoky, mesquite, woody flavor. Summer brew that seems to go well with a bbq. Again, like with most Shiner products, very filling.

This draft brew from a restaurant poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a typically carbonated light orange colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was smoky and woody. The bubbly mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The very mild bubbly lingering flavor contained notes of barely noticeable smokiness and malt. An OK brew just nothing special. the bubbliness covers up the mild malt.

This is arguably the worst beer I’ve had from Shiner. As a helles, its not terrible even though it’s a bit heavy on the caramelly sweetness. The smoke, however, is what was unnecessary. Overly smoked, chemically flavored.

I wish they would bring this one back instead of that sorry grapefruit thing with which they replaced it. I really enjoyed this one with brisket and ribs on a hot summer day. It’s smokiness was a perfect accompaniment to a Fourth of July Barbecue.

From notes. 12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Aroma of caramel and light wood smoke. Taste is about the same. Overall, very good. My first smoke beer. I really like this.

Originally reviewed: 6/16/10. 12oz bottle picked up from Whole Foods. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a darker orange with a thin off-white head on top. Little lace sticks to the glass. Scents of sweet malts, and just a faint whiff of smoked mesquite. Expected a bit more here, but can’t say I’m disappointed. Glad it’s not so in-your-face since this is a lighter style (Helles).
The body is crisp and clean. Carbonation level is moderate. Flavors of grains, sweet honey tones, and again, light smoke. Nothing too bold here. Just a background smokiness that complements the style well. I liked this. It didn’t smack of smoke, but it played the part well. Not bad.

Very strong smoked BBQ taste that is a bit overwhelming. Hard to drink more than one of these or the beer by itself

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a frothy white head that kind of fizzles out. Nose is light smoked meat, caramel and sweetness. Not much in the way of malt in the nose. On tasting, far too sweet, hardwood smoke and just not particularly balanced. Sweetness is just not pleasant. Not for me.

I likes me some smoked beers but this one didn’t do it for me. Very little smokiness and what’s there seems more like Liquid Smoke than the authentic mesquite variety.

Clear golden with a small whitish head. Aroma of smoked meat and grain. Taste is typical pale lager with a nice smoke flavor. Light bodied. Far from a masterpiece, but this is more than serviceable for yard work, grilling, etc.
