4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 BeerBitch12 (16) - , Oklahoma, USA - JUL 13, 2009
The aroma really captured my interest. It smelled very woodsy, like a day at a BBQ. Drank it out of the bottle. Good gold color, doesn’t look artificial, thin head. Aroma opens up in the glass.
I didn’t think that I would like anything they called "Smoked," but it wasn’t a heavy flavor. It was over a hundred degrees out, so it was refreshing.
I got a little sweet, smoked wood, a little grass. Reminded me of the BBQ at this little convenience store in OKC called "Circle J’s." 24 hour BBQ. The BEST. Cobbler, ribs, brisket, corn, beans, hot link, polish dog, and white bread covered in AWESOME sauce. THAT’s what I taste in this Shiner Smokehaus.
It has a great beat and I can dance to it.

I wish they would bring this one back instead of that sorry grapefruit thing with which they replaced it. I really enjoyed this one with brisket and ribs on a hot summer day. It’s smokiness was a perfect accompaniment to a Fourth of July Barbecue.

A bit surprised that the ratings weren’t higher. Its not a schlenkerla smoke beer, but its a helles. Excellent smoked malt flavor in the beer., Its a great smoke beer because its one you can drink all night and not tire of it.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2010 bottle from Party Source, on tap at Bookhouse Pub, and tonight, bottle from Hop City. What is wrong with you people?? Why is this beer rated so low? Just because it says Shiner on the label doesn’t mean it’s a bad beer. I’ve had little love for Shiner until this one, but the Smokehaus is amazing. Using mesquite on the malts is pure genius and it only makes it more charming that it’s from a TX brewery. The pour is a clear gold with a small head. Typical smoked lager approach so far. The aroma is deep and smoky with lots of real BBQ quality. The mesquite gives it a sweeter and meatier aroma. Flavor follows through perfectly. The smoke is strong, but not overpowering. Meat and wood is all up in my palate with a delightfully ashy, smoky finish. The mouthfeel on this one is medium-light. I could use more, but there is a respectable level of BBQ, meat and outdoor grilling spattered all over this beer. Given that it’s Shiner, it is surprisingly aggressive and clean. Big, big props. One of my favorite styles with a delightfully American twist. Now we just need a hickory smoked beer. . .

smells of sweet and smoke with some grass on the nose. Pours a very hazy Yellow with some head. Very nice carbonation with a smooth finish a light to medium body. Flavor was subtle on the smoke which is why it was so good.. It was refreshing with a nice smokey twist. I really LIkes this beer.. Was it the smokiest Rauchbier I have ever had.... no.. but it was rather good for a different summer brew
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cybercat (2447) - Georgia, USA - MAY 15, 2010
Pours a clear golden amber with a fine-bubbled, yellow-tinged off-white head. Aroma is strong and malty with a subtle tone of hickory smoke. Flavor is malty and just a little yeasty and has a firm hickory smoke overtone. Thick, smooth, slightly fizzy texture leaves a distinctive smoky and yeasty finish.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A- Body is a crystal clear pale yellow color. Pours with a nice, fluffy, 2-3 finger white head. Head fades to about 1/2 finger but has perfect retention from there.
S- Nose is fairly mild and offers some hops and pale malt...only a hint of smoke can be detected.
T- The flavor is completely different than the nose. The main character here is the smoky pale malt upfront. A kick of refreshing hoppiness comes through in the finish but the smoke remains with the same moderate intensity the entire time.
P- Medium carbonation and very light body-not watery or thin.
O- This beer tastes like exactly what it claims to be a mesquite smoked helles lager to be paired with a summertime BBQ. The smokiness is there and the main character-but its done tastefully so that the lager qualities of the beer are still present. Frankly, this is my favorite of the Shiner lineup so far.

Pours copper/gold with a thin white head. Smells of perfume, light spice, some smoke. Tastes smoky and caramelly with some nice citrussy elements. The smoke compliments this one well.
