3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Did not pour into another glass; I donít care about appearance. Smells sweet, carmel, a more toasted depth to the grain than I would expect from a pale ale (not necessarily a compliment). Taste is moderately hoppy, muddled sweetness. Probably would taste better very very cold like a macro. Light body with a thin, slightly syrupy texture. Doesnít have as much of a contrast between the body and the slightly hopped taste as I would like... again, muddled, but an excellent attempt to throw most macrobrews off their paces.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
If you are expecting a traditional pale you will be disappointed. However if you ignore the label this is a nice beer. Lovely caramels, spices, cinnamon and clove, and some berries. Hops are minimal but give it a nice dry herby finish. Can tell the German character of the brewery.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lovely golden yellow color, with two fingers of big, white head. Big thick lace. Now THIS looks like an IPA (or pale, whatevz).
The malt aroma is bready, English. There is a peppery hop accent.
The taste is a sweeter malt, slightly sugary. The hops are perfumey, flowery and sweet. Just a hint of a puckery sourness, but with an aftertaste of rose petals. Iím shocked at the complexity of a Shiner beer.
Feels slightly prickly. This might be a nice gateway pale for a non-hop drinker.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice fruity, citrusy, hoppy aroma, and it goes downhill from there. Amber in color with small off white head. Taste is caramel, fruit and some tingly hops. Mouthfeel is slick, but no aftertaste. This is better than rated, but could be better.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 5/20
Poured a amber colored little to no head smelled strongly of hops with a little fruity hint. Taste was something to get use to flavor sent me on quite the ride goes from sweet to bitter sort of citrus like with a hint of malts. Bottomline an ok beer but definitely better ones out there.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
The initial pour makes it look really pretty and that maybe just maybe Shiner has made a beer that might actually surprise you...in a good way. Unfortunately though this one disappoints, just like all the other beers in Shinerís lineup. It pours a pretty and clear deep burnished golden with ruby highlights, some whitish head that hangs around for a bit. A glass swirl brings about a slightly grassy-herbal aroma, a very subtle candy-like malt sweetness, a touch of esters that seem Belgian-yeast-like, and an earthy hop profile somewhere around a blackberry mixed with a dank herbaciousness, and ending with a distinct floral note. The flavor however will completely underwhelm you, dry, and sour! Almost as if there was a bit of brett. No body whatsoever and no residual sweetness. The carbonation dries it up even more so and it leaves you with an unsatisfying lactic taste on the back of your tongue. No bueno.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Nov. 26, 2013. Coppery, herbal, sour-malt pale ale. Weird, unbalanced recipe. Not undrinkable, but I wouldnít seek this out.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From bottle. Very attractive amber pour with some off-white head. Usual Shiner faint nose. Thin-bodied and somewhat fruity, this isnít as bad as it sounds. A nice beer for working in the yard. Typical of Shiner, itís quaffable, but unremarkable.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
(tap) clear orange/amber colour with a small tan head; faint aroma of fruit; lightly acidic crisp flavour; it has none of the pale ale character, tastes more like a light fruit beer

Although this doesnít look that bad in a glass, it smells like itís gone bad before you even pour it into a glass. And yeah, itís not that much better once in the glass either. Caramel and musky grains define the nose. Although itís labeled a pale ale, it smells like a lager... a dirty, thin Oktoberfest more than anything else. Itís awfully ick in the mouth, pretty nasty. I canít drink this without making a face. I donít want to even try to explain the flavor. Or finish. Itís a sad excuse for a pale ale. Itís like someone added caramel malts to a thinned out Shiner Bock. Come on, guys. Iím beyond given up on Spoetzl.
