COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Brewing Company’s newest beer, Shipyard American Pale Ale, will be available nationwide in April. This refreshing session beer is bursting with grapefruit citrus flavor and features hops from the Pacific Northwest.

Shipyard American Pale Ale was first released in 2013 in the United Kingdom through a unique partnership between Shipyard Brewing Company and Marston’s in the UK. It turns out, beer drinkers across the pond love American beer (or “new world” beer as they call it) as much as we do. Hundreds of draft lines of Shipyard American Pale Ale are flowing in the UK.
Now, in 2014, Shipyard American Pale Ale is available in the US on draft and in bottles from sea to shining sea.

Twist off cap 12oz bottle pours with a clear pure gold body that supports a weak near white head. The aroma offers up sugar, soft citrus cotton candy, floral hops and then a tart tangerine note well off in the background. Ringworm coming? The taste delivers tart floral hops, sweet tart candy fruitiness and the lot of sugary maltiness. To midway it picks up an odd blend of nuttiness, biscuit malt and a somewhat astringent sort of butterscotch ringworm sensation.

From tap. Very nice American pale. Clean fresh hop aroma, fruity, dry taste, nice bitter finish.

Bottle from Epsom Circle Market, Epsom, NH. Aroma began a little bit fruity and hoppy with a smidge of pine and by the end of the glass it smelled a bit like laundry. Pours with a small white head with good retention and lacing. The liquid itself is a bit hazy with an orange gold color. Taste is medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied with average carbonation and long mildly bitter finish. Overall, very drinkable with some interesting features but not a killer beer.

Keg at the Fleece, Penwortham. Pours clear golden amber, thick bubbly white head. Aromas of tropical fruit, lemon and lime. Taste is light bitter, big caramel kick on the finish but. Not bad.

Nice American pale ale, could possibly do with being a bit fruitier and more bitter

35cl Bottle from drankgigant.nl. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is light malty, crackers, floral hops, light lavender, some light caramel malty sweetness. Flavour is light fruity, malty, some honey, tiny hint of toffee, floral hops, light earthy, light bitter finish. Light bodied. More like a golden ale than APA to me, but nice nevertheless.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2015 Pours a light yellow with a thick white head. Aroma of shipyard signature yeast, Carmel malt and English hops. Taste follows, so typical for what it is. That yeast is pretty rough.

Pint from keg at The Chambers, Gloucester. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of American hops, citrus, pine, hints of tropical fruits. Nice flavour of a moderate amount of American hops, with the same elements as in the aroma. Very refreshing, but a little more bittering hops for the finish would not hurt.

Pours pale gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sour citrus and caramel aromas. Dry with sweet caramel and dough upfront turning to citrus in the medium length finish.

Keg at The Rose & Crown, Charlbury, Oxon. I checked this twice with the Landlord, who went and looked at the keg to see that it wasn’t the Marstons version. Hazy gold with white head. Very cold. There is a fresh hoppiness to this, citric with a lemon peel character, some sweetness, some grassiness. Good but not great.
