Shipyard Brewing Company’s newest beer, Shipyard American Pale Ale, will be available nationwide in April. This refreshing session beer is bursting with grapefruit citrus flavor and features hops from the Pacific Northwest.

Shipyard American Pale Ale was first released in 2013 in the United Kingdom through a unique partnership between Shipyard Brewing Company and Marston’s in the UK. It turns out, beer drinkers across the pond love American beer (or “new world” beer as they call it) as much as we do. Hundreds of draft lines of Shipyard American Pale Ale are flowing in the UK.
Now, in 2014, Shipyard American Pale Ale is available in the US on draft and in bottles from sea to shining sea.

On tap at the Roundhouse in Plymouth. Golden with a bubbly head and light carbonation. Grapefruit aroma. Dry, zesty, pleasant beer with plenty of malt backbone. Crisp and surprisingly good for what appears to be a UK knock-off of a US beer.

Smooth, refreshing, well-balanced, decent flavor, etc. Has pretty much the entire package if looking for a good summer brew, yet nothing really stands out here. Semi-watery with just enough malt to give some flavor. Mild hops on the finish, but definitely noticeable. I’d say this is more like a session pale ale..or feels and tastes like a hoppier pilsner. I wanted to try and the price is good. Probably won’t be a seasonal staple though.

Keg at Ye Old Elm Tree, Durham, as part of £8.95 beer and burger deal. A typically brash, fruity American style beer, but blessed with surprisingly subtle bitterness and really quite enjoyable.

bottle at home, order from a dutch web store. poured a clear dark golden to amber colour with a white head. tropical fruit notes, citrus, malts, floral, pines, graham crackers, tropical fruit juice, could have used a bit more hop bitterness to it.

Pours gold. Aroma is of lactic malts, hops, and yeast. Flavor is the same. Leaves a lactic ale finish. Definitely a first and last.

Twist off cap 12oz bottle pours with a clear pure gold body that supports a weak near white head. The aroma offers up sugar, soft citrus cotton candy, floral hops and then a tart tangerine note well off in the background. Ringworm coming? The taste delivers tart floral hops, sweet tart candy fruitiness and the lot of sugary maltiness. To midway it picks up an odd blend of nuttiness, biscuit malt and a somewhat astringent sort of butterscotch ringworm sensation.
