Shipyard Brewing Company’s newest beer, Shipyard American Pale Ale, will be available nationwide in April. This refreshing session beer is bursting with grapefruit citrus flavor and features hops from the Pacific Northwest.

Shipyard American Pale Ale was first released in 2013 in the United Kingdom through a unique partnership between Shipyard Brewing Company and Marston’s in the UK. It turns out, beer drinkers across the pond love American beer (or “new world” beer as they call it) as much as we do. Hundreds of draft lines of Shipyard American Pale Ale are flowing in the UK.
Now, in 2014, Shipyard American Pale Ale is available in the US on draft and in bottles from sea to shining sea.

Cask. Pours amber gold with white froth top. Aroma grapefruit and melon. Taste has sharp citus to the for with some sour bitterness on the palate. A beer for warmer climate than Nottingham in the winter but solid enough.

Draught at The Linen Weaver. Clear amber with a frothy head. Aroma is full of grapefruit and some sweet tropical notes. Very fruity flavour and not too bitter, good session beer.

Keg at The Rocket, Putney. Clear orange, still, small foamy creamy head endures and leaves full lacing. Aroma is faint tangerine and rubber. Body is medium to light, tingly carbonation, slightly foamy. Poor body. Taste is flowery hops, rubber trainers, fruit gum sweetness. Nice hop character in some ways, almost no malt showing up. Clean and easy but let down by the fizzy body. Would certainly choose this over the macro lagers at ’spoons.

Keg at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear golden colour with a fizzy white head. Aroma of grain, grapefruit, some lemon, slight straw and grassy hops. Taste is similar of grain, grapefruit, some lemon, slight melon and grassy hops. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. A dry, grassy hop bitterness in the finish. A surprising beer. The texture and aroma of a premium lager but a taste of an hoppy APA. Lacks the maltiness but overall a decent beer that will adapt to the British market.

Keg, Corn Exchange, Leicester. Golden with a firm off white foam. Toasted grain with caramel and low lemon. Grassy with sugar melon and some mustiness. Bready palate. Dry on the finish. It’s OK.

Bottle - light yellow with a small head. Skunky aroma and metallic taste and a little bit of corn and malt. One is enough.

Botle at Fly in The Loaf, Liverpool. Pours clear golden with a big creamy white head. Aroma is light sweet fruity and grassy hops. Taste is moderate sweet with some weak citrus dry finish, nice.

On tap at the Roundhouse in Plymouth. Golden with a bubbly head and light carbonation. Grapefruit aroma. Dry, zesty, pleasant beer with plenty of malt backbone. Crisp and surprisingly good for what appears to be a UK knock-off of a US beer.
