COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Brewing Company’s newest beer, Shipyard American Pale Ale, will be available nationwide in April. This refreshing session beer is bursting with grapefruit citrus flavor and features hops from the Pacific Northwest.

Shipyard American Pale Ale was first released in 2013 in the United Kingdom through a unique partnership between Shipyard Brewing Company and Marston’s in the UK. It turns out, beer drinkers across the pond love American beer (or “new world” beer as they call it) as much as we do. Hundreds of draft lines of Shipyard American Pale Ale are flowing in the UK.
Now, in 2014, Shipyard American Pale Ale is available in the US on draft and in bottles from sea to shining sea.

Pale with a rocky head. Dull hop aroma. Comes across more like an IPA. Long bitter finish, sometimes astringent. Yes, finish is astringent fer sure. Long lasting mouth ruining finish. Ifd you like IPA, gotta try this, its terribly on style for an IPA.

Some off hoppy notes in the aroma at first, but then it settles down and just has the familiar west coast hop aroma. Twistoff bottle, thin white head on a light honey colored, perhaps misty (could just be the condensation on the glass) brew. Decent bittering, definitely just a pale ale, biscuity, dry, some sunny citrus notes. Twangy finish, medium body. OK, but not worth paying a premium for. New Leaf Market.

puboflyons (2077) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - JUN 21, 2014
From the 12 fl oz bottle with an expiration date of November 2014. The pour is a slight hazy medium amber with a long lasting cream colored head. The aroma has the Shipyard standard Ringwood yeast with roasted malts and a good hop note. The body is medium. The taste has a nice malt character up front and a good hop finish at the end.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent gold with a white head. Aroma is lightly fruity and citrus. Med body or nearly. Flavor is odd. Quite bitter. But it’s like the malt is providing the bitter, not the hop. Not getting the promised grapefruit. And if the malt is roasty, I’m missing that too. Still bitter is good, so I’m drinking it. How does it finish? Bitter! Dry too.

Pours golden with very thin white Head. Nose is orange peel. Aromas are toasted malt, corn and herbal hops. Bitter and dry finish. Quite okay and refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours amber with a white head. Grapefruit aroma. Hoppy pale ale and a good representation of the style. This is a departure for Shipyard away from the flavor of their ales. Most of their stuff is a more British style with more sweetness and their buttery flavor from their yeast which is not in favor. I think this is their attempt to become more relevant and I appreciate the effort. Overall I think this is a good beer and I suspect this will eventually take the place as their flagship from the Export ale.

Fresh, grassy hops. Wheat and corn. Bit of a bitter kick to it. Fairly smooth finish. Perhaps a bit light and lager-y for an APA, but certainly a very drinkable option that has a little something to it.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2014 Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light golden with a soft, snow white medium thick head that leaves a solid trail of lacing. Aroma has some nice light bittersweet note with hints of citrus and spruce. Bursting with flavor which includes some solid bitter citrus grapefruit notes, a touch of nectarine sweetness, some saffron spiciness, a finish of white grape juice. Crisp refreshing mouthfeel. Very solid APA.
