COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Applehead is a crisp, refreshing wheat ale with a delightful apple aroma and subtle cinnamon flavor. This beer is available in 6-packs, 12-packs and on draft. “We asked Pumpkinhead fans what other flavors would they like to see and their answer was apple,” said director of sales and marketing, Bruce Forsley. “We listened to what our fans asked for and created Shipyard Applehead. Master brewer Alan Pugsley has combined the subtle sweetness of cinnamon and apple with a clean, refreshing wheat ale to create a whole new beer experience.”

It poured a dark orange color with no head to speak of. The aroma was of cinnamon and apples. The flavor was mostly cinnamon, with a little apple flavor coming through. Something different for sure.

Bottle; poured a clear copper/gold color with a smallish whitish head. This was a truly bizarre flavored beer; tastes like a pumpkin beer, with alot of cinnamon and a touch of apple weirdness. Just doesn’t go together well for me.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Best Enjoyed Before: May 2012.

Appearance: Lightly hazy, dusky yellow in appearance with a slender, rather short-lived, white head.

Smell: Fairly sweetish aroma, lightly tart Red Delicious apples, with a generous blend of cinnamon and sugar and little, trifling hints of toast and bread.

Taste: Sweet, faintly biscuity pale maltiness with a thin, thin toasted edge to it. Sugary apples tossed with powdered cinnamon. Low hop character, bitterness. Flavors converge to form a taste of apple tart, Apple Jacks cereal, or apples & cinnamon oatmeal -- take your pick. Lightly tart, sweetish end.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Akin to their Pumpkinhead, as I’m sure anybody could guess (as well as my morningtime oatmeal), though carrying across more of its namesake flavoring. Refreshing and fairly light in alcohol, it delivered what I expected from it.

Aurelius (4027) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Sweet, pickled peaches aroma - spice and a little vinegar. Clear, orange beer with a thin head. Bad label. Tangy, not bitter, lightly sweet Apple Jacks cereal flavor. The main flaw was a very watery body. A little effervescence and bitterness in the finish. Any time your director of Sales and Marketing is making craft decisions, the outcome is likely to be sub par. Market Square Liquors, Timberlane.

Saled at an esbls tasting. The nose here is apples and cinnamon. That is the flavor, too. Add some wheat. Not complex but nice.

Poured from bottle. Apple and cinnamon aroma. Light amber color. Same in the flavor, as well as malt. Has a sparkling cider feel. Refreshing and enjoyable.

Aroma is overspiced apple pie and seltzer? Taste is watery spiced apple pie. Its actually kind of tasty but nothing great. Very thin and drinkable.

same spice profile as pumpkinhead. A light blanket of apple flavor in the background with pretty much no base beer in there at all. It’s slam able.

Bottle. Pours amber with a medium off-white head. Sweet aroma with cinnamon and a hint of apple. Flavor of light malts, lots of cinnamon and some other spices. Only a hint of apple flavor, mostly in the finish. Too much spice in this one.

2/4/12. On tap. Clearish golden pour with a small off-white head. Mild apple smell with tons of spice - dominating like potpourri. Sweet apple flavor that is again spice dominated, heavy on the cinnamon. Dry and almost burning cinnamon... huge meh.
