COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Applehead is a crisp, refreshing wheat ale with a delightful apple aroma and subtle cinnamon flavor. This beer is available in 6-packs, 12-packs and on draft.

“We asked Pumpkinhead fans what other flavors would they like to see and their answer was apple,” said director of sales and marketing, Bruce Forsley. “We listened to what our fans asked for and created Shipyard Applehead. Master brewer Alan Pugsley has combined the subtle sweetness of cinnamon and apple with a clean, refreshing wheat ale to create a whole new beer experience.”

I feared an apple-flavored malt beverage, but I was surprised at how much I liked this beer. Light body but not watery. Apple flavor was, appropriately, predominant, with a baked-red delicious apple character that was complimented by light brown sugar and cinnamon notes. Some faint malt notes toward the end state a claim that the beverage is a beer. Interesting, but the sort of beer that you are happy to split and then move on to something else. I like this as an alternative to the pumpkin beers as a fall seasonal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a cloudy yellow with fizzy head. Aromas of fruit, grass, and apples. Flavors of light apple, yeast, and hay.

Clear orange to golden color, medium sized white head at the beginning, disappeared fast. Lots of apple and pumpkin in the aroma. Taste is sweet, apple and cinnamon. Watery, soft carbonated. A bit weird. //Pivoteka

Maybe this benefitted from lowered expectations, but this was actually not bad. Definate cinnamon and apple, but what I liked best about it was what it did NOT have. No butter flavors!

Bottled 355ml. -from Pivoteka Zagreb, shared with Marko. Darker golden coloured, small off-white head, Apfelstrudel in the nose with cinnamon of course. The beer itself is almost the same, Apfelstrudel with lots of cinnamon and pretty watery as well. Again another one that goes into "not my type of beer" category but also much better than O’fallon Which I’ve tried few minutes before.

0.355l bottle, Pivoteka, shared with ogivlado. Darker golden-amber body. Small white head. I actually dig the aroma, grandma’s Apfelstrudel, apples and cinnamon are evident. Watery taste with dry cinnamon up front, apples are mostly gone from there. Completely subdued. Some semblance of Apfelstrudel still remains, but man it’s watery, especially in the finish. No, this is not a quality beer, especially since it hints at so much more than it delivers.

12 oz. bottle. BBD Aug. 15. Pours a medium, well retained white head, over an effervescent gold (SRM 5) body......nose is moderately heavy cinnamon, light apple, hints of wheat, no esters, no hops, balance to the cinnamon......taste is slightly sweet, with light apple, dominant cinnamon, finishing almost dry, no hops, balance to the cinnamon......mouth feel, light body, no alcohol, high carbonation. The underlying wheat beer is much too hidden by the simple spice. More wheat and apple presence would make this particular bottle better. Its strongest point is its appearance. BJCP 6/3/12/4/5

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant golden color with a small white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was sweet cinnamon sugar and strong apple. The flavor was sweet cinnamon sugar and apple - very much like apple pie. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Yummy!

From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is apples and cinnamon. Citrusy, zesty fruity apples. Light cinnamon dryness into the finish. Juicy apples.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- Fantastic aroma of apples, can’t wait to taste Appearance- Looks like a mix between apple juice and a lager. Has a small white head. Taste- Completely disappointing. I actually feel cheated when I compare the aroma to the taste. You can taste cinnamon and maybe a hint of apple, but the beer flavor doesn’t appeal to me. Palate- This is a light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. The finish is dry and crisp. Overall - This does not even compare to Shipyard’s Pumpkin brew. I would not try this again nor recommend it to anyone unless they want to experiment with flavors

Ugh, over sweet and spicy, like McDonalds apple pie filling. It even looks bad in a glass. No good.
