COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Applehead is a crisp, refreshing wheat ale with a delightful apple aroma and subtle cinnamon flavor. This beer is available in 6-packs, 12-packs and on draft. “We asked Pumpkinhead fans what other flavors would they like to see and their answer was apple,” said director of sales and marketing, Bruce Forsley. “We listened to what our fans asked for and created Shipyard Applehead. Master brewer Alan Pugsley has combined the subtle sweetness of cinnamon and apple with a clean, refreshing wheat ale to create a whole new beer experience.”

Pours a slight orange with a white head that quickly dissipates leaving no lacing. Carbonation is average with fizz throughout the drink. Aroma is slight apple with cinnamon dominant. Palate is the same. Body is thin on the medium side. It is a good beer. Got it for $8.99/12 pack or $15.99/case at Kappy’s.

The aroma is very pleasant with a fusion of the sour yeast, apple crispness, cinnamon spice, and nutmeg body, which almost smells like a cider, and the appearance combines a hazy orangeish golden color with a large yet fleeting white head. The taste is quite sweet, slightly sour, and a touch umami, which is a very surprising and enjoyable mixture; furthermore, the palate accentuates the taste with its medium body, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a long yet slightly sour finish, resulting in a hearty and sweet yet light beer.

Very strong apple and cinamin flavor, but it wasn’t a cider, it was a beer. This was pretty well crafted.

Wow. This a very nice surprise! pours a very nice clear Amber with fair ring of white head. Looks like sparkling cider. Kinda has a similar mouthful as well. The flavors a solid applejuice and hints nutmeg sweetness. Reminds me of applejacks cereal. But the thing that sends this over the top is the aroma! Just wonderful bouquet of cinnamon and pumpkin pie spices. I could smell this for hours. Wildly underrated beer...

This is a great beer. Shipyard has always made quality beers and I look forward to Shipyards pumpkin head every fall. It was a great surprise when I saw this on the shelfs at my local store. Great refreshing beer with a crisp apple taste.

But oh what a weird beer! After the first shock of cinnamon, I begin more and more to like the beer. To finally truly enjoy it. You feel all the flavors of beer, cinnamon and apple, which is an achievement.

Apple and cinnamon aroma right off the bat. Clear solid amber color with a one finger head than goes down fast. The apple and cinnamon are not surprisingly in the flavor too though not overwhelmingly. Faint sourness in the middle which then trails off to a clean finish. High carbonation gives it a refreshing mouth feel. Worth a try.

light amber, average head. aroma of apple pie, and flavor matches. if there’s a beer in there, it’s pretty buried. i could see how a more serious "beer guy" might hate this, but it’s interesting and very well executed.

Wonderful spice aroma. Light gold in color with a lit of carbonation. This beer goes down so easy. You could easily drink an entire six pack. The low abv at least means you wont be putting down too many. Taste is very similar to the Pumpkinhead offering. Light apple taste followed by spices, cinnamon. A very nice drinking beer.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Best Enjoyed Before: May 2012.

Appearance: Lightly hazy, dusky yellow in appearance with a slender, rather short-lived, white head.

Smell: Fairly sweetish aroma, lightly tart Red Delicious apples, with a generous blend of cinnamon and sugar and little, trifling hints of toast and bread.

Taste: Sweet, faintly biscuity pale maltiness with a thin, thin toasted edge to it. Sugary apples tossed with powdered cinnamon. Low hop character, bitterness. Flavors converge to form a taste of apple tart, Apple Jacks cereal, or apples & cinnamon oatmeal -- take your pick. Lightly tart, sweetish end.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Akin to their Pumpkinhead, as I’m sure anybody could guess (as well as my morningtime oatmeal), though carrying across more of its namesake flavoring. Refreshing and fairly light in alcohol, it delivered what I expected from it.
